Let me preface this review by saying that I really enjoy a lot of Pizza Port's beers. However, with the wide variety of experimentation they do they're are bound to have a bad one once in a while.
This beer had a lot going on and it didn't taste quite finished. There seemed to be a lot of unfermented malt sugars but the beer is already over 8% so this is headed towards a barely wine if it is allowed to age. Some odd chocolate/raisin flavors that could come from the yeast or spices that were added. With all the other flavors the hops get lost even though there was a distinct bitterness on the finish.
Definitely not my favorite PP beers but no worries, they always have 10+ of their own offerings on tap. I'd be surprised to see this one make it back up on the tap board since Pizza Port does a great job of reviewing their beers and makign adjustments.

On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.
Pours a clear dark copper with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, cocoa, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with an intense herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is super hoppy in the aromas and flavors.
