On Tap

Pizza Port Bressi Ranch
Carlsbad, CA

Another great IPA from Pizza Port, and this one follows a similar avenue as most of it's others. It's not quite as good as Poor Man's, but little is. Clear and beautiful. Citrus, a little bit of pine, and some very mild floral and marijuana character combine with just a hint of malt. Moderate bitterness. Delicious and would love to order this again whenever I see it on tap.

If you know anything about ALS, you will throw some money at this fundraising beer. Fortunately it's a great, tasty bomb of a brew. Named after Lou Gehrig, who brought ALS to public attention. And enough about that.

The hops are a blend of new varieties, which you can read about by searching for "HBC hops ALS." These are big alpha hops, but it's a really nice mix of pine and fruit. The color is an apricot-tinged golden amber in the pint shaker with a modest white foam. Malty richness to start, and keeping it warm in the background as the hops crank up.

Some sharp tangy high notes tingle with the sprightly carbonation. The body is fairly light but the alcohol spools into your brain. Bitterness is just a blur as you fly down that fast hop highway. Man, I want another one. My favorite IPA of 2013, and a reminder that Port knows how to make beer.
