On tap at Pizza Port Bressi Ranch
Aug. 5th, 2013 – standard pint glass
A: Alpha Helix pours a very clear and burnished gold look. There is a thin layer of mildly retaining paper white foam perched at the brim and some sticky ribbons of lace that carry all the way down the drink.
S: Smells of freshly grated grapefruit zest with some herbal spice and dank flower qualities. There is some underlying caramel malt sweetness but it’s hard to discern over the hops. Very enticing hop forward nose.
T: Spiced grapefruit is predominant and resinous with some more tangerine citrus, florals, and sappy pines in tow. The hops segue into more dank herbal flavors as the drink progresses with a moderately smooth overall bitterness. There is a very light caramel malt sweetness to the beer and a touch of dry cracker likeness. The alcohol is incredibly well disguised here at over 9% ABV. The balance is quite enjoyable and here we have yet another great DIPA from Pizza Port.
M: Moderate fullness, almost on the lighter side. Nice creamy texture from the carbonation. Dry and crisp in finish. Light puckering effect with some long lasting sticky hop resins.
D: Freshly hopped and incredibly well balanced. Dangerously drinkable at 9%+ ABV. Just another great DIPA from the Port. That’s how we do.
Recommended. Love the new “Corporate” locale too.
