This bottle is 4 years old. Let's see how it held up!

This pours a very dark brown, with a very small head, and no lacing.

On the nose, I get dark fruits, caramel, rye, tobacco, slight oxidation, sweet nutty bourbon, and oak.

This is an amazing series of beers. I can tell this isn't exactly getting better at this point, as the oxidation is creeping in slowly, but it's still a fantastic beer. There's old leather and tobacco, rye, chocolate, caramel. It's also slightly smokey. The bourbon barrel is so well integrated here. You get slight whiskey character, a hint of oak, and a bit of vanilla. It's a burly beer and I love it.

This is medium bodied, silky and fairly smooth, with a slight oaky astringency on the finish as it warms up. The carbonation level is pretty low.

Voodoo are the kings of the barrel-aging. Their program is easily one of the best in the country.

Incredibly dark for a wee heavy - near pitch black but ruby as well, like a black barleywine.

Rich aroma of earthy, herbal, raw oak barrel. A little leather-oak tannin, some very slight meaty smoke as well. Nice bourbon whiskey comes second. Chocolate, caramel and toffee malt. Similar on the taste - very rich, intense but well-integrated barrel that is not over-powering of the base beer, dry oak finish.

Fantastic beer - not sure it's a wee heavy, more like a barleywine but regardless it's a top notch barrel aged strong ale. I did prefer the eagle rare, but not by much.

Bomber poured into a matching Voodoo barrel room collection snifter. The brew appears a dark brown to nearly black color with a few bubbles of head that fades quite quickly. Some spotty lace clings to the glass.

The way this brew smells is totally perplexing and downright concerning. It is like stink bait you would put on your hook to go out catfishing...ya know, the type of strange concoction of chopped liver, spoiled stinky cheese and decaying beef products. If you can ignore the strange decay smell, there are notes of caramel, vanilla, toffee and molasses also present.

The taste fortunately brings forth none of that stinkbait flavor. It is boozy with hints of raison, somewhat oxidized with caramel, vanilla and a solvent booziness. A bit of faint chocolate and molasses come out more in the finish.

This is a medium to full bodied brew. A very nice take on a barrel aged wee heavy. My only gripe with this is the off-putting nose. I have no idea what would cause a beer to smell this terrible but taste amazing.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep murky brown. Pond-water murkiness. No head. A few bubbles in the collar.

Smell - Brighter bourbon aroma than the Eagle Rare. Less oak and vanilla, more liquor. Brown sugar.

Taste - Brown sugar. Sharp bourbon and oak. Deep caramel. Vanilla sustained in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Heavy and boozy. Low carbonation.

Overall - Very similar to the Eagle Rare version. Really boozy, though.

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at his tasting.

Bottled 9/24/13. Bottle # 047.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly tart cocoa, char, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the tartness I am getting in the flavor is odd.
