This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a very small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like spicy hot peppers, vanilla, fudge, maple syrupy, spicy bourbon, and oak.
Most of the beers in this series are much hotter than their typical Mexican stout counterparts (Abraxas, Mexican Cake, Huna, etc). This is one that's even hotter than normal, somehow. The maple tries its best to add some balancing dark sweetness, but the pepper stands out most strongly, really stinging the lips especially as the beer warms up. There are good aspects to this, but it absolutely should be shared amongst many people.
This is creamy and silky, but with a big lingering spiciness on the back end, reducing drinkability.
I feel like these beers are getting spicier and spicier - this is tasty but it's honestly a little bit much at times.

GNVP Aged in Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrels (Bottle Dated: 08/19/19)
Poured from the bottle into a stemmed snifter glass. Immediately noticed an (over) abundance of carbonation once the bottle was opened. Lots of carbonation on pour - leaving a moderate head on the glass. Smell is pleasant - dominated by the maple. Look is as expected for the style - very dark. Very little legging on the glass. Taste is very maple forward - with the peppers dominating the back end. Mouthfeel is very light for the style.
Overall: This one was a dud for me. There was a huge mis-balance of the flavors - with the peppers being most dominant - completely overpowers the other adjuncts. The mouthfeel was pretty much non-existent. Shared the bottle with 3 friends - we all agreed that this was disappointing.

Looks is thick with nice mocha lacing.
Smell gets a high rating for similarity to black magick. It smells so similar plus loads of maple.
Taste is MASSIVE maple syrup followed by deep cocoa similiar to black magick. Quite sweet. Finish is a big pepper bite. I'm a pepper beer fan so obviously anything mole stout style is right up my alley. This is great with the .apple incorporated.
Feel is the only thing I feel is lacking. I wish it finished a little thicker and stuck to tongue a little more like BM does.
Overall I think a lot of voodoo BA beers are hit and miss. I'm a huge lover of BM and I live the similarity. I also love the pepper bite. This is probably the better gnvp of the ones I've had and better than things like K13 but still no black magick.
