ISSA IPA is our New England style IPA brewed with two varieties of wheat and hopped aggressively with Simcoe and Amarillo. Rich in citrus and tropical fruit notes from a massive dry hop, the wheat additions produce a full body that results in a highly drinkable IPA that is bright and hoppy without being abrasively bitter.

decent, fresh tasting, a little green and vegetal even from all the hops, strong without being heavy really. pale and dull looking but with a lively inch of white head on it, some murk to it but not sloppy, and more carbonation than expected which is essential to keep this from weighing me down. the nose is fresh and peppy, with a spicy amarillo side to it, a hope ive never loved but this is a good showcase of it, the simcoe is more grapefruit than pine in this instance which adds some nice bright fruitiness to the mix, the grain is hefty and wheaty, not quite as tidy to me as it could be on the ferment, but not messed up or anything either, the hops run way out in front of the rest of the beer, and that is also true in the flavor. i think the marriage of the amarillo and the simcoe is a real success, they both seem to make each other better in this, some oiliness, dank weedy character, green grape, pink fleshy grapefruit, lemon, and grassy herbal bite too, and this ends up a little more bitter than a lot of hazy types, which i really dont mind. i enjoy the fuller wheat profile in support of the hops, earthy and cereal forward, and the alcohol is well hidden. overall i think this could be cleaner than it is, but its unique in a samey space and one of the more enjoyable hoppy beers we had in here. a little rough and ready, but the hop profile is cool. i couldnt drink three of these though...

Fully opaque pureed corn yellow with a moderately short white head leaving spongy bubbles on the glass.

Juicy and nearly full of body, I get immediate tangerine vibes right up front before it comes down with a slight bit of resin that becomes a little more spicy and sharp after the swallow, providing a good contrast to the orangey explosion. A slight dankness emerges with time.

Is sa IPA from Voodoo Brewing. Purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA (07/10/21). $ 4.00 (including tax)/16 oz can ($0.250/oz). Stored at reefer in store and at 40 degrees after purchase. Reviewed 02/05/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Can stamped on bottom “BORN 5/20/21 BEST 6/19/21”. Served at 49.8 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 52.3 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), hazy.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density, short retention, rapidly diminishing to a 0.5 to 1.0 cm crown and a heaped rocky cap. As the head retracts, lots of lacing remains on the glass.
Lacing – Good. Multiple narrow bands of tiny to small bubbles remain, with both stalactites and prominences originating from the bands. See also above.
Aroma – 3.75 – Sweet pineapple and a bit of grapefruit. No malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.75 – Starts lightly bitter and chalky, otherwise follows nose. No malt, no yeast. No ethanol (7.8 % ABV as marked on label) taste or aroma. No gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends on the dry side.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium to full, creamy, lively but gentle carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 This has been gestating in my beer reefer #1 for nearly nine months and now it’s time to deliver! I’m both surprised and pleased that this has held up so well. Both the wheat and the Simcoe hops have added to the longevity of this brew which still tastes and feels like a NEIPA.

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazed golden pour with thick fluffy white head. Great lacing.

S: Tropical fruits and citrus... honey and juice.

T.F: Light grain backbone. Semi-sweet up front... honey and fruit juice. Tropical mango and grapefruit. A bit of spice and peach. Stone fruit. Medium bodied... sticky on the tongue. Modest bitterness for balance.

O: A well executed NEIPA... a little sweet, but good fruity hop notes and super drinkable. One of Voodoo's better offerings.

16oz can into a Pint glass (10/11/19)

L: Unfiltered, hazy, deep honey colored with a light head.
S: Citrus, hoppy, and very slightly fruity. Aroma is deep and satisfying without being overbearing.
T: Very solid IPA taste, juicy sweet citrus fruits, moderately hoppy, with a touch of wheat. Not overly bitter but still has touches of it to produce a pretty full taste and well rounded. Not the most impressive beer you'll ever drink but very solid.
F: Personal preference is to unfiltered beers because the mouthfeel is a bit heavier with a lasting aftertaste. This is one of those beers that is very hazy and you can feel it. This beer is smooth and is easy to drink.

O: Very good not great. I'd absolutely drink this beer at any time and enjoyed it a ton, it was nice to drink, decent ABV without being overbearing. First sips are better than the last few; it does leave nice head rings around the glass and I appreciate that.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 10/24/2019. Pours opaquely hazy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.8%. Overall this is a fantastic NEIPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/resinous/drying finish; awesomely soft/silky feel. Fantastic Simcoe, Amarillo profile. Super juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example. Loved the classic hop profile as expected.
