You might be thinking, that’s an odd name, even for Voodoo; why’d you settle on that? Well, over the course of a year, we brew a lot of different collaboration, specialty, and one-off beers that require us to bring in many raw materials we don’t regularly use – most specifically, numerous varieties of barley. Curt had the idea to thoughtfully and carefully put some of these leftover ingredients together into a new stout recipe that he jokingly deemed a “garbage stout.” As we kicked around the idea in the brewery and actually brewed the beer, it evolved into something we were internally calling Hot Garbage. We liked it, the name stuck and we’re fully embracing it. This first batch of Hot Garbage is a bit of a departure from some of the imperial stouts that we’ve made in the past, as it is composed of a smaller amount of highly roasted malts, isn’t quite as dry and features a generous amount of Belgian biscuit malt, along with an extended boil.
This singular batch of 13.6% American imperial stout was then divided up into three separate barrel treatments for 22 months each, with this batch being aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels (gold wax 10.18.19).

Obsidian black with a thin but persistently level dark tan blanket.
Smell is cocoa and vanilla bean with a little woody booze.
Taste adds a hint of cherry skin with a smoky roast, more like a snuffed out log. Char brings more dark vanilla caviar as it warms. And a bit of cinnamon character crops up at its warmest.
Slick yet finely crisp, it's still drying in the swallow.
Damn, I can't believe this is already over six years old in the bottle--this has no right tasting this good right now!

Pours as a really dark black color with virtually no head on top. The smell of fudgy bourbon barrel spewing off the nose of this beer. The taste of the beer has a rich chocolate and bourbon flavors for days. The feel is the beer is slick and oily. Overall this just gets added to the wide list of great Barrel Aged stouts from Voodoo.

Pours mostly flat, mild carbonation, chocolate lacing. Heavy barrel notes on the nose - bourbon vanilla, wet oak, blackstrap molasses, roasted malt, faint baker’s chocolate. Muscular.
Palate is very fudgey - thick chocolate malt, boozey caramel, flickers of hot bourbon & vanilla bean. Mouthfeel is super thick & coating.
It certainly isn’t out to re-invent the wheel, but it hits every note you’d expect, right on the head.

I'm into two of the three of the set so far. I believe these are above black magick. Thickest of Voodoo's offerings. Straight barrel-aged stout not convoluted with coconut or whatever additive, extremely well done. Leaves a stain on my glass. Viscious. Delicious.

Pitch black in color with a deep mocha brown colored head. Aroma is full of barrel character, fudge, with hints of coconut and vanilla as well. Taste follows the nose pretty closely and is coupled with what might be voodoo's thickest bodied Stout to date.
Yes my friends, this is black magick level in my opinion.
