New this year, we took half of that same batch of CAUTION! CONTAINS REAL PUMPKIN!!! and added cold brewed coffee from our friends at Happy Mug Coffee. We picked their Colombia Reserve for this batch, as we felt its flavor notes of caramel, nuts and brown sugar blend well with this barleywine.

Poured into a snulip, the color was a blend of amber and copper with a cloudiness that cleared up as it warmed. There was no head to speak of. The aroma was of cinnamon, vanilla, and bourbon. Bourbon was the first flavor that hit my palate with coffee finishing out the sip. In between was some restrained dark fruit and light molasses. As it warmed the coffee began to fade and the cinnamon and vanilla became more prominent. Also more forward was the touch of hops that combined with the coffee to give this a somewhat bitter finish. The medium body kept it drinkable, but also felt like it shortchanged some of the flavor notes. I would have liked a bit more of the dried fruit flavors in the mix. Overall, it wasn't bad, but not one of the variants that I prefer.

The foggy body displays a hue of well worn penny, building a short tan head that quickly dies off to a thin ring.

This puppy came out on draft way colder than the other beers we had at The Compound this day. That said, what first taste I could perceive was like a vanilla pumpkin latte, even with a sort of chai character, despite this not being the chai version. As I warmed it up, the barrel exhibited a little peppery spice to pair with the minor hints of cinnamon apple pie I also got.

While it was a good pumpkin beer, this coffee variant seemed a little thinner than the regular version I had a few months ago, bringing me to unexpectedly conclude that I definitely enjoy the regular 2018 vintage a fair amount more.
