Just got off of nightshift. Don't judge me if this is timestanled per location.

Look is clear, amber brown and almost no head.

Smell is FUCKTON of maple. Bourbon cream liqeuor. No traditional bock aromas escape from beneath the aforementuoned blanket. Too pastry/not beer enough of a smell for me to love.

Taste is lacking depth. It tastes like a really sweet, really poor bock that is smothered by maple syrup. Its not good.

Feel ia very very thin.

Overall the beer sucks and I dont care to finish it when I could allot my calories to something else.

One of the most disappointing BRC beers I've ever had i think.

22 ounce wax capped bottle, 2021 vintage (5-5-21 written on the label), big thanks to Jon and Meg for this brew! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown with about a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the maple hits first for me, then rye whiskey, dark bread, caramel, toffee and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some oak and toasted malt flavors noticeable. I think the rye/peppery spice stands out a bit compared to the other flavors, but doesn't overpower them either. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. Voodoo's website says this is 9.6% ABV, but it seems a bit stronger than that to me. Just doesn't seem to drink as easy for something that strength. With that being said, it's a good brew especially for people who like rye barrel aged beers. Wouldn't mind trying this one again in the future!

This one pours a very murky dark brown color, with a small head and not much lacing.

This smells like heavy rye spice, boozy bourbon, maple, caramel, and breadiness.

There is a lot of barrel here, and it very nearly buries the base bock here. I do get some sweet breadiness, but it’s mostly burly and brash bourbon character, with bittersweet maple and loads of rye peppery spice.

This is medium bodied with a lower level of carbonation. It’s quite boozy so it’s definitely a slow sipper.

This isn’t quite to the level of some of their better known barrel aged beers, but it’s still worth a look.

This starts off pouring clear tiger eye brown but filling to a nearly opaque mulled cider brownish-burgundy. A barely there khaki head instantly dies to a fluid surface that leaves clear legs on the glass. 9.6% can't be right.

Quite thin with a sparse, crackly carbonation, this has a disappointing mouthfeel, needless to say, particularly for a doppel, but taste is fairly enjoyable.

It smells just like crystalized maple over oats, even on into creme brulee. But it also has a hint of apple cider to the aroma, going right along with its appearance, and I swear it's not by association!

The maple is so deep it's almost as if caramelized on the exhale, then in comes a flavor of custard. As it warms, the nose actually gets more peppery while the taste becomes more spicy with a touch of toasted oak, which is the opposite of your typical progression. It helps, though, to make it more mature, but not enough, as it's all sugars, or impressions of sugars, and not much else. However, as it warms further, hints of cinnamon and date begin to develop.

This came damn close to being a full on maple creme brulee beer, but I could have used a little more body, and a bit more bready doppelbock malt, like found in their foeder aged version. This gave me an instant headache, and warmed the ears up substantially. No, 9.6% can't be right at all. I wanted to like this so much more than I do.
