poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter. pours a thick, shiny black with a finger of dark mocha brown head which reduces down to a thick collar along with a few swirls. nose is a wonderful combination of chocolate and bourbon. the barrel is there yet doesn’t sting the nostrils like a lot of voodoo can tend to do. again, heavy chocolate and bourbon on the taste with lingering notes of vanilla and the slightest hint of tobacco. it’s not got the heavy char and earthiness of some recent BRC bottles i’ve had lately, and while i don’t mind those elements in a barrel-aged imperial stout, this one just moves in a different direction. much smoother and easier to consume. almost not a sipper because i just find myself going back for another slug of it. superbly full mouthfeel. a touch thicker to me than some of the recent BMs and other collab barrel-aged imperial stouts they’ve released recently. great collaboration - i didn’t want my pour to end!

The matte black body that's yet maybe a little glossy builds a fluffy tan head of moderate height that slowly settles to an espresso surface and creamy ridge.

The entire living room is wafting with all kinds of chocolate aromas bouncing off each other while I open this side by side a Weller Hot Garbage. However, this bottle seems to be the primary driver of the heavier chocolate vibes, as it exudes all kinds of deeply rich mocha ribbons. Behind all that, it's still got those classic, nutty qualities, while the oak seems to add hints of maple.

The medium body has an airy froth--unusual for Voodoo's BRC--delivering peanut butter wafer in conjunction with a soft woodiness that sharpens into a nearly crisp yet warming semi-dry finish where it exhales Tootsie Rolls, but also a splintery woodiness.

L - Absolutely stupendous on the pour. The first splash I dropped into the tulip was incredibly inky and drizzling grainy, sediment rich unfiltered goodness. Erupted in a thick, thick 2 finger dark mocha head. The oiliness on the swirl is impressive and lasts what seems like forever running down the the glass.

S - when I cracked the bottle and poured it without intentionally smelling it all I thought was aphotic. I could smell char and roast. I ket it settle and warm before bringing it in to whaff... mother of God does it smell something different. I dont dislike aphotic so was happy to smell more of what I thought to be a similiar beer.

Boy was I wrong. Im getting so much maple syrup and bourbon cream liqueor its unnerving. Where did the roast go? It smells insanely sweet. It smells so much like black magic Woodford double oaked b1 I would have bet a paycheck it was that beer.

Lets taste this.

T - yeah okay voodoo. Im not sure what narrow gauge did in this but this is definitely black magick Woodford double oaked rebranded. Although, its hotter and more whiskey forward than that beer. That was one of my favorite black magicks. Glad to see voodoo hold it back in barrels and release some more
