Where Our Secrets Go is our new imperial stout. Rich and complex, this smashing ale boasts numerous dark and roasted malts that are balanced by additions of caramel and crystal malts, along with American hops to round it out. Where Our Secrets Go fills in cohesively between our oatmeal porter, Pennsylvania Porridge, and our Russian imperial stout, Big Black Voodoo Daddy. We’re big fans of this full-bodied stout, and we think you’ll feel the same.

12 ounce can, canned on 09/06/24. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a BeerAdvocate chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. The brew smells like roasted malt, dark fruit, coffee, and some earthiness. For the most part the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some blackberry and dark chocolate flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium, It's slick and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this one, certainly worth a try if you get the chance!

Appearance: Served up a very dark brown, near black body. Minimal head from a to-the-top bar pour.

Smell: A mélange of molasses, cocoa powder, earthy nuts atop heavy toast with slight hints of dark fruit (fig/dates) and booze.

Taste: Dark bitterish chocolate powder, good-sized pinch of instant coffee and rolls through molasses, well-toasted bread, nougat and a little fruitiness. Restrained alcohol component, though showing a bit more as it warms a tad.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: It's decent.

Canned 3/22/25; drank 7/6/25 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice, noisy dark tan head which quickly dissipated; no lacing remained.

Fresh earth, blackberry, marshmallow & black licorice notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Fresh earth, blackberry, dry oak & booze heat flavors.

Russian Imperial Stout vibes here; this one was kinda old, but it was still nice. I'd love to try it fresh!

From the 12 oz can in a snifter via the brewpub. This solid little imperial pours
a pitch black with a moderate head of tan foam that settles to a thick ring, thin
layer, and sports some faint lacing. Nose of dark chocolate, dark roasted malts,
faint coffee, and subtle dark berry nuances. Flavors surpass the nose with dark
chocolate, moderate coffee notes, subtle char, dark roasted malts, and dark fruits
of black and blueberry. Mouth feel is full, smooth, rich, coating, light carbonation,
and a bitter malt finish that is subtly dry.

Overall, a solid imperial.

Cheers

I got a 4pck of cans of this beer from the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with very thin tan ring head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet dark chocolate malt base with roast presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Poured into a chalice: color is solid black, head is tan and presents a thin solid top.

Smell is sweeter malt with roast and chocolate notes forward, dark fruit comes through on the finish.

Taste is sweet dark malt notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, light booziness.

Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness with lingering light boozy dryness and sweetness; notable softness from the oats.

Overall a dark, sweet imperial stout that has a strong dark chocolate flavor and aroma with finish that lingers those big stout characteristics.

one of their better beers ive had so far, a little bit understated, which can be a good thing, sneaky strong, its neither that full bodied, that sweet, or that boozy in the glass, so its a little easier and cleaner than a lot of its peers in this style space, again though not presenting real fresh here in idaho, a long way from home, and much of this stuff makes the trip rather poorly in my experience. close to black, modest shine, real short off white head thats gone pretty fast, but the beer isnt totally still to drink. light licorice, smoke, dark chocolate, and ash in the nose, well hidden abv too. the flavor is pleasant, subtle licorice in the mix, and good roasty bitter character the whole way, faint hazelnut and almond, dark chocolate and some nice smoothness to the mouthfeel. its got some grain layers but never gets too sweet which keeps it pretty drinkable as this sort of thing goes. inoffensive, somewhat light, no reliance on crazy adjuncts which is appealing to me in this day and age, good depth on the dark grain, faint oxidation, but overall a solid effort from a brewery i have been largely down on. hopefully more like this to come, less like the empty calories lager i had in the same session...

Pitch black color. Small tan head that recedes quickly.
Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and char.
Taste follows the nose. Chocolate and char.
A bit thin in the mouth.
Would drink this again.

Wow I really don't like this I think it's the combination of roast and wood flavor with cola like molasses and it lacks the sweetness to balance all this. As a huge fan of the big black voodoo daddy I am very let down on this imperial Stout for the price of this 500 ml I could have got two voodoo daddies...

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my snifter. I picked this up at the brewery in Meadville in June. Date stamp on the can is canned on 2/2/2023.
The beer pours a cola brown to black color and rests in the glass with no light passing through. A dense creamy tan head of about 1 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy surface covering. This leaves dense lattice when I take a sip or swirl the glass.
the aroma on this beer is roast malts, dark chocolate and a bit of charred wood. No barrel aging mentioned, so must be malt scent. Not really any sweet notes on the nose and no hops nor hints of ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine tingly carbonation and a smooth texture. The beer drinks pretty easy for an imperial stout. I sort of wish there was a little more "umph" to it.
Flavor is roasted malts and dark chocolate, hints of that charred wood too. Not smokey like sausage but burnt wood, although not ashy. Never any hops to note and the ABV is hidden throughout.
I find myself drinking this beer very easy and I find my glass empty quicker than expected. A no frills easy drinking imperial stout.
