Having them side by side, both Warlocks pour an amazingly viscous tar black, so much so they are seemingly unable to build heads, until slowly a very dark chocolate brown head of fine bubbles surfaces, then in the Stitzel disappears just as suddenly, while in the Woodford remains a fine blanket for a short clip before dispersing to a thin chain and spotty surface.
This teal waxed bottle is just as roundly thick and viscous as the purple--hell, they're both damn near SP gloppy on the palate. However, the differences here are nigh indistinguishable, thus revealing the decadent nature of this side by side as a hair excessive. I couldn't help myself, though, as this unexpectedly fortuitous exchange (thanks Luscious!) has served to hold the urge to slay my Very Old set at bay.
I had a hard time really discerning the differences here, but the old lady definitively sided with the Stitzel. As a point of contrast, the chocolate character here does come with a toasted mocha angle, as opposed to hickory, exhaling vanilla crème englaise, and as it warms over time, even smoked maple. Also, in having this on draft at The Compound for BA Day a month after originally writing this review, I found this version to exhibit additional notes of a uniquely herbal spice that almost emulated a sort of amaretto and evergreen combo, while still detecting notes of scrumptious maple.
It's quite delicious, but as I noted in the Woodford review, the thiccness is a little overwrought for me at this point in my beer journey.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter. pours a thick, jet black with almost no head besides a thin mocha brown collar around the edge of the glass. lovely barrel presence. nothing stinging or overbearing but it’s there perfectly just like its sister bottle. it’s got some chocolate and a slight vanilla thing going on. a little less chocolate and more earthy spice and tobacco. very solid but i like the wheated whiskey a little more. full mouthfeel. again, hard not compare but the wheated whiskey batch had better mouthfeel to me. still, a great no adjunct barrel-aged imperial stout. love to see when they’re collaborating with the old school masters of the barrel-aged imperial stout.
