This 12.8% beast of an imperial stout showcases a high rye grain bill pushing overload with three varieties of rye and midnight wheat, conjuring an appearance of the dead of night. This first batch of One Way Ticket To Midnight was then laid to slumber for 36 months in 14-year-old Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels.

thick, motor oil, pitch black pour with the faintest dark brown foam that fades away quite quickly. the nose is a wonderful mix of heavy bourbon, oak, faint chocolate and vanilla and even some dark fruits and tobacco. taste follows with more of the earthy tobacco, faint chocolate and vanilla and even fainter dark fruits up front followed by a dry, oak-forward and bourbon-heavy finish. stupidly thick mouthfeel. very low carbonation but hits more in the finish with some carbonation. before that it sits on the tongue extremely heavy and still. this was excellent.

Like tar from a pterodactyl’s teet, the pour is insanely viscous, but still builds a short and level dark tan head that stealthily disperses to a thin, creamy ring.
A cacao, espresso and Tootsie Roll oak nose meet a dark chocolate, tobacco and bourbon palate that’s velvety thick and luscious, exhaling deep, dark vanillins while numbing the tongue.
There in the exhale a little more espresso-like acid develops with time, as too do some dark fruit Raisinets as it warms. Its fine carbonation runs to a tingly, warming finish.
I'm absolutely loving the new stout recipes Voodoo is churning out.

One of the sweetest voodoo beers I've had up front. Finishes with a somewhat odd bitterness that doesn't quite feel congruent. Quite dry on the finish too.
Overall a great beer but I really hoped this was going to be close to a 5 given my affinity for all things rye. Sadly the rye doesn't shine like I hoped.
Having a second time on 3-15-23 and enjoying it much more.
1-10-26 update - lately I've been drinking down a huge cache of voodoo beers I've amassed. Surprisingly many of them have been better than I remembered but this one is sadly a big departure from the last few BRC I've opened. Still has the ever impressive density and mouthfeel that their barrel aged stouts always have but this one just tastes a bit meh. I look back to my previous review and while I don't find this particularly sweet, it 100% does finish with an odd oaky tangyness that just doesn't gel. I can totally see what I was tasting 2 1/2 years ago when I reviewed this. I don't want to say the I word because if that were there case it would be full blown sour by this point, but something just doesn't taste up to par for a voodoo BRC on this one.
I originally gave it 4.5s across the board but I'm updating this to L - 4.5, S - 4.25, T - 3.5, F - 4.5, O - 3.75. Sorry voodoo this one was whack.
Side note - I'm pretty sure Voodoo is sadly on their way out. They went in HARD with opening new locations the last 5 years. In 2025/2026 we've all seen craft beer enthusiasm dwindle. Voodoo recently held a [for lack of a better term] cellar sell off sale selling their once coveted vintage barrel beers that they'd occasional offer for tripple digit prices now at original cost of $25. They closed they're original location a year or two ago, several franchise locations have closed, and just last week, their second most prominent legacy location (Erie) announced a close I believe tomorrow 1/11/26. The writing is on the wall sadly. They got greedy and tried to expand when craft beer was shrinking.
