I really like that this isn’t syrupy, and it doesn’t taste like figs or plums.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like tobacco, caramel, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and lots of oak.
The Black Magick series contains the best beers that Voodoo makes, but this is not really that far off from those beers. There’s a ton of interesting and tasty barrel character here – tobacco, cookie dough, oak, caramel, leather, and cedar. There’s also a ton of dark chocolate and roasty malt character. It’s well balanced and doesn’t get either too sweet or too bitter – it’s just right.
This is medium bodied, creamy, and not too boozy.
This is extremely enjoyable. I really dig how long Voodoo lets their barrel aged beers go.

poured from a yellow-waxed 12oz bottle into a perennial snifter. pours a thick, shiny black with a thin dark brown foam cap that quickly disappears. bourbon, chocolate, light tobacco on the nose. taste follows with additional flavors of caramel, vanilla and oak. strong, warming bourbon on the finish. thick, super full mouthfeel. lower carb and slick on the tongue. another excellent barrel-aged stout from voodoo.

Solidly glossy black with a short but dense head of dark tan foam that disperses to a creamy collar and silky surface.
Definitely exhibiting more of its rye spice than the Old Fitzgerald variant, this is much more black peppery, which also allows a little more booze to surface. It's also closer to dark chocolate midpalate, though this is paired with a little campfire ash, but that Raisinet found in the OF emerges here in the warming, mature exhale as well.
I took the mixed reviews into consideration at first, but I love it. I'm not really sure why others were turned off by the increase in its spice and booze components, but neither becomes too harsh, and they lend a welcome contrast to the heavy body that allows me to enjoy it perhaps a touch more.

I think I prefer this slightly to the previous version. I've got to be honest though, all of the BRC stouts are starting to taste so similiar. I mean there is nuance between them but overall they're largely similiar. All great but pretty predictable. This is coming from a guy who has one every lottery in the last 2 years and had them all. I suppose I just wish they'd brew some stouts that totally depart from this signature taste. Again, its great, but predictable.

Thick and dense as ever, voodoo BRC never fails there. Smells is somewhat mute which is strange. Taste isn't world class. Tangy oak dominates just like the old Fitzgerald one I revisited a month back. I'm not sure if these series were ever truly great but I'm 3 years they're now truly subpar.
