poured from a blue-waxed 12oz bottle into a perennial snifter. pours a thick and oily black with hardly a trace of foam. as the liquid is consumed, it leaves thick legs on the glass. you can tell just from the appearance how massive this beer is. light chocolate and vanilla notes with an even fainter bourbon aroma. for being aged as long as this was it is very smooth bourbon on the nose. as it warms, aromas of cedar and earthy tobacco also come into play. taste follows the nose with a punch of bourbon and chocolate followed by light vanilla, baking spices and oak. really good and while it is more intense in taste than aroma it is still pretty damn smooth for such a big beer. thick mouthfeel. perfect amount of carbonation. coats the mouth in a stout stickiness and remains its full mouthfeel through to the finish. this series, while having different barrel treatments, is always a delight to sip on. this one is no exception.

Berk pours black and viscous as tar yet is able to build a flat and level milk chocolate brown head.

Spoiler alert: it's as if laced with freshly scraped Madagascar vanilla bean! Before I get there, it's amazing how consistent their roast and char characteristics are throughout their entire BRC portfolio, even with the extraordinary process and extended aging these less frequent annual releases go through.

Despite that imposing pour, it isn't gloppy or sludgy on the palate. While it doesn't feel hot, it does warm the belly as it goes down. After the swallow it becomes amazingly chewy dry despite the full and velvety body.

Taste exudes espresso, dark chocolate mocha plus liqueur and Spanish peanut before exhaling pure Madagascar vanilla creme.

This exemplifies why Voodoo is my tops in the game. Yes, above all other non-adjunct barrel aged producers. Hands down.
