Voodoo Brewing Company July 6th, 2013. Review from notes taken on that day.
Lychee Pale Ale on tap at the pub, clean, clear glass
A Cream head, opaque yellow brown body. Great look for a beer in that style. 4.0
S Pale Ale, some light Lychee citrus notes. Interesting, inviting. This could be a really great beer! 4.5
T Light to moderate hops with that Lychee organic sense with some bitterness. The taste of this beer has strength but it is balanced enough that it would be highly drinkable and would keep your interest on repeated sips. 4.0
M Smooth, full feel with a good finish. This is a real positive aspect of the beer. 4.5
D As suggested above, very good drinkability. Overall this is a finely crafted Pale Ale with moderate ABV and great look, presentation. I could have MANY of these! 4.0

32 oz 'growlette' courtesy of tommyguz pours a hazed, light gold color with an impressive cap of white head..especially for a growler. Tons of sticky lace and retention...a fine looking ale here.
Nose is more pale ale than lychee nut, with most of the focus being on a CO2-laden, hoppy ale that has a light grain bill.
The hops are the main focus and I am a bit disappointed by the tame contributions from the lychee nut. Its not bad, but I was expecting something a little sweeter with more infuence from the fruit. It is also overcarbonated y quite a bit, especially for a growler. Its drinkable though and goes down really easy, but I wouldnt even guess lychee had I not known. A good, solid APA I would be happy to drink on tap at the local watering hole....advice from twiggamortis to Voodoo - more lychee por favor.

32 oz growler supplied by Tommyguz (thanks man!) poured into a Russian River -tion glass
Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange color that is oddly very yellow at the edges where more light comes through. Has a thin white head that leaves sticky, clean lacing on the glass.
Smell: The smell immediately lets you know that this is a beer with something other than hops and malt adding the aroma. Smells lightly of sweet lychee, with a tiny bit of hops in the background.
Taste: This is an awesome tasting beer (provided you are a fan of lychee). There is a nice tropical lychee flavor that hits initially and fills the mouth with pleasing flavor, which is slowly replaced with hop bitterness on the level of a sierra nevada pale ale. Surprisingly considering the fact it is a lychee pale ale, this is actually pretty dry and reminds me of a west coast pale more than say a three floyds type malt character.
Mouthfeel: This beer has a great mouthfeel, especially considering its very low 4.7% alcohol. It is nice and creamy, and has some stickiness. Great!
Overall: This is like a sierra nevada pale ale with an extremely pleasing, perfectly integrated lychee flavor. Lychee is actually a pretty difficult flavor to pair with anything, and this beer is spectacular. This beer as a summer session beer would be great! I feel lucky to have gotten a chance to try it.
Disclaimer: Lychee is my favorite fruit, but I honestly don't see how anyone couldn't really enjoy this beer. Try it if you can!
