440 Main

440 has closed its foray into microbrewing. I think the situation was pretty difficult for the brewer. The brewery operation was set up in the basement, and was really no more that a very sophisitcated homebrewing operation. The beer was pumped through very long lines to the tap, and it tended to go flat in the line. I belive this was intended as more of a test operation in contemplation of opening a true brew pub near Western Kentucky University, but that seems to have fallen through. Currently, the best choice on tap is Honker's ale. I understand the head brewer is now leading a small start-up micro here in town that will have some regional distribution. I wish him well - perhaps he only needed a better facility.
