Classic dry Irish. This stout is made from highly roasted malts used for color. Oats are also added for an extra creamy mouth feel. With coffee and chocolate aromas, this ale is very flavorful, but don't be fooled by color, dry Irish stouts are always very light in body.

Thanks to THECPJ for grabbing some WV beer! LIke the bottle art on this one and especially the bottle cap. Really cool.
A: Pours a deep black with a thin head that forms upon pouring and dissipates quickly leaving behind patches of bubbles.
S: Roasted malts and light aromas of coffee and chocolate. There is a sweetness and the oat is present as well.
T: Similar to the aroma, some coffee, chocolate, and a good bit of roasted malts. Some sweetness on the finish with a bit of oat.
M: Medium bodied, but a seemed a little thin for style, but still was pretty creamy.
O: Not too bad at all. Good aroma and flavor. If the body was a bit beefier it would greatly improve this beer I think.

A - Thin, off-white head resting on a rich, dark, black beer. Head fades quickly and nearly no lacing. Beer seems "thin" as it swirls in the glass.
S - Roasted malts dominate the nose.
T - Bitter, near metalic, mineral taste lingers, but it is not unpleasant. What I imagine a "Dry-Irish Stout" would taste like.
M - As the intro suggests, the mouthfeel lacks body, but it is quite smooth and is easy enough to drink.
D - Nothing overly-impressive, but a drinkable beer none-the-less.

Poured from a bottle black & Brown nice head that sticks awhile and laces a bit. Smells of Molasses Coffee and oats.
Taste is of Molasses and malt with a hint of Hop and a little mild coffee very tasty. Very nice in its mouth feel with a touch of Coffee and sweetness and hints of mild hops it is very refreshing in mouth feel.
Overall I give this one a 4.5. When I was on my trip in WV everyone I talked too told me to be sure and get some of this they were right. A very enjoyable and drinkable Beer!

Poured from 12oz bottle into nonic pint glass.
Appearance: Pours black with a substantial brown head that dissipates fairly quickly and yields a thick ring of lace.
Smell: Roasted malts and coffee with a hint of sweet oats.
Taste: Begins with sweet molasses and a slight hop spice that turns into a coffee flavor before finishing with a mild oaty sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Lighter body with balanced carbonation and a slightly dry finish.
Drinkabilty: A solid, easy drinking stout. Not the best out there, but certainly not the worst. There is nothing wrong with this brew, but it doesn't quite stand out, either.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams Boston Lager glass.
Appearance: Pours a deep black color with a large, tannish head that dissipates quickly and leaves some spotty lacing.
Smell: Smells very "dry." Has hints of oatmeal with some slight roasted qualities to it. Very pleasing...
Taste: Only mildly bitter up front. Gives way to a pleasing roasted malt flavor with hints of coffee and chocolate. Finishes with a dry sweetness enhanced, I'm sure, by the added oatmeal.
Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, and dry.
Drinkability: A very pleasing and easy-to-drink dry stout. This would be a great gateway beer for people who like Guinness but want to branch out a bit. I would certainly recommend this one to my friends.

A big thanks to Santa Adam for sending this my way. The bottle poured into a pint glass produced a finger worth of tan head that sat on top of a black bodied brew. I got a lot of roasted goodness coming from the nose typical chocolate and coffee notes filled my head. Flavor wise it mimics the nose but with a good balance of sweetness and roasted bitter making it rather drinkable. The mouthfeel was medium with good carbonation. I easily drank the bottle I had and could have had a few more. I was pleasantly surprised with this brewery and would be proud to call it my local brewer.

Consumed at the Icehouse on the campus of Davis and Elkins in Elkins, WV.
A. Pours black with a thin tan creamy head that leaves a decent amount of residual lacing.
S. Roasted malt and little else.
T. Roasted bitterness and hop bitterness with roasted character and a light sweetness.
M. Thin bodied with fairly low carb.
D. Fairly light and roasty. Not a great stout, but good (especially for a tiny college bar).

Appearance: black in color with a 1" tan colored head. Some mild lace paints the glass.
Smell: roasted malt and chocolate are mild but detectable by the nose.
Taste: roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, some prune sweetness, and a moderately balancing bitterness.
Mouthfeel: smooth from start to finish. Aftertaste is short as the roasted flavors last on the tongue.
Drinkability: this beer was a bit thinner than some other stouts, but it was very easy to drink. A few could be had in a session.

A= almost totelly-black brown, nice foamy brown head, nice rimming.
S= plentiful toasted malts, chocolate, some hops florals evident.
T= rich dry toasted malts and nutty chocolate, dry coffee, just enough carbonation to give a zip on the tongue, dark molasses, very very nice. I'm surprised to find that I like this better than a few very expensive Euro stout's that I've bought in the past few weeks. Not a huge amount of hops but enough for the balance, most of the dryness is from the toasted malts. Not that sweet, just enough. Very nicely balanced and bold.
M= dry chocolate, light burnt molasses with hints of sweetness, nice touch of hops bitters.
D= I'm going to see if I can get a keg of this stuff for our next party. It would not be difficult to session on this for an entire evening. It's not all that filling compared to what might assume from the darkness.

Mountaineer Brewing Company Stout pours a deep chestnut brown with a frothy off-white head. Decent head retention, but no lacing down the glass. Heavy coffee and chocolate notes in the aroma, along with roasted barley, as expected.
The roasty and coffee notes are barely present in the taste, and there is a mineral taste in the finish. Not the most complex beer.
The mouthfeel is smooth (not creamy, though), but much thinner than expected. As a result, the carbonation seems too low, although it is probably right for style. A little more body would go a long way.
The appearance, smell, and taste are to style, but the mouthfeel and mineral flavors I get make this an average beer at best. Drinkable, in that I'll keep pecking away at the six-pack until it's gone.

Also tried this on-tap at Rumsey's at the Clarion Hotel / Conference Center in Shepherdstown. Not a bad brew.
It's a deep dark brown color, with a big slowly fading tan head. Decently stout looking. Nose is gently toasted malts and sweet almonds. Taste is mostly just roasted malts. Slight sweet nutty flavors. Mouthfeel is unfortunately quite thin.
Worth a try.

I poured this from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.
It is dark black with a tan head. It looks impressive.
The smell is also quite good with a roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee.
The taste is quite disappointing. It has a medicinal taste and aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is okay, but it is not very drinkable.

Found a six pack of this amongst other Mountaineer offerings at a local 7-11. Being a fan of porters and stouts, as well as supporting local brewers I figured I would give it a shot.
It pours nearly pitch black/brown with very little head. Holding a glass to the light reveals very little light passing thru.
Whatever head remains from the pour quickly dissipates.
As others have said, the smell is right on for the style. Malty, Chocolaty come to mind.
Mouthfeel is very smooth and silky, but albeit a little on the watery side.

Upon pouring from bottle to pint glass:
No head at all. Pours a very deep, dark brown/black.
Smells very good. The roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate are clearly coming through.
The taste is actually pretty good. I taste more of the coffee and malts than anything else, but the dark chocolate make a bit of an appearance.
The mouthfeel leaves just a little to be desired. It's not quite thick enough for a stout. It's a little too viscous. It is very smooth though and does finish dry.
Drinkability is high. It's not filling in the least and the alcohol doesn't prevent you from wanting another.
All in all, not a bad effort here. The label says this is an oatmeal stout but I couldn't pick up on that at all. I figured this would be a lot more thicker/creamer than it was. However, if you happen to be down West Virginia way come football season, give it a shot. You could have worse.

The aroma is right on for the style. It's got coffee, chocolate, toasted malt, and cream. The appearance is dark brow with an almost nonexistent head. The flavor is like the aroma but watery which really hurts it. The palate is way too thin for any kind of beer. Overall it's one of those beers I would rather smell than drink.

A. Very dark brown with a tinge of red. Pours a little thin, with a bubbly, cola-like head that dissipates quickly. Head retention is poor and there is little lacing.
S. Roasted aromas, coffee, touch of cocoa, cola.
T. Decent roasted malt character, very dry. Low hop presence. There is an almost chalky, cement dust thing going on in the finish that makes it taste a little amateurish, but it's not too bad otherwise. Kind of reminds me of something you'd get at a small, local brewpub. Not world class, but certainly quaffable.
M. A little over carbonated and quite thin. A little too thin even for the style I would say.
D. Although not an amazing beer, it's tasty enough and actually quite drinkable. The carbonation is a bit much, but it's pretty light and you could definitely drink a few.
I'm not amazed by this beer, but I wouldn't pass it up if handed one.

Pours a somewhat translucent, thin brownish black. Bit watery on the pour. No head, just some bubbling.
Almost no smell. Maybe a whiff of roasted malt and coffee.
Taste is all about the roasted malt. There's some coffee ... maybe a hint of dark chocolate. Pretty straight forward brew. Strangely satisfying. Mouthfeel is better than the appearance would have indicated.
One of the more sessionable stouts I've seen. I may have graded it a bit on the harsh side.

Pours a dark, dark brown with some ruby red tints when held to the light. Head is thick, off white and about half an inch high. The head is hanging on pretty tight, not a bad looking pour.
Smells of light coffee notes, a bit like stale diner coffee, some sweet sugary smells as well.
Taste is not the rich stout flavor I was hoping for. If anything its much the opposite. Its a very watery and light mouthfeel with only tidbits of coffee, chocolate and rich malt flavors coming through.
As far as stouts go, this one leaves me wishing for a lot more.

(From notes)
A - Poured with a thin tannish head that dissipated pretty quickly. Almost completely black color, but had hints of ruby and brown.
S - Nice roasted malt aromas, with some malty sweetness followed by bittersweet chocolate
T - Really bitter (not hop bitter) overall, and not nearly as roasty as suggested in the aroma. The taste hints at some elements I would associate with the style, but doesn't get close enough
M - Pretty thin MF, closing in on a little too thin. Carbonation is pretty high given the style.
D - Drinkability is pretty low given the lack of stand out flavors, and the bubbliness of the carbonation. Didn't really demand another sip.
Overall, this is isn't the best example of the style that I've had, but not the worst brew ever. The brew looked and smelled great, but the rest of the elements just weren't there.
