A Belgian Abbey Dubble, this is a dark amber-brown ale with a rich malty flavor and aroma that gives way to some hoppy dryness in the finish. Full, malty body. Aromas and flavors are derived from unique yeast strains. Dark Candi sugar is added during fermentation for added alcohol and flavor. It is brewed with Belgian pale, caramel, aromatic and chocolate malts & American Santiam & Simcoe hops

On-tap at Gaslight Brewery & Restaurant, South Orange, NJ
A: The beer is very dark brownish red in color. It poured with a thin beige head that died down ever so slightly, consistently leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of dark fruits along with notes of dark malts and hints of candi sugars.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This isn't a bad Belgian dubbel made by an American brewpub. It wasn't that sweet and was pleasant to sip, but seemed like it could use a little more complexity in the dark fruit flavors to stand up more with the top beers in the style.

Poured a slightly hazy golden amber with little to no head, other than a few stray bubbles. Yeasty aroma with notes of caramel malt. Biscuity taste, caramel malts, and candi sweetness. A bit of spice detected, but not enough to be distinctive. Sweet and not quite medium bodied. Too sweet actually, which is the major problem. Pleasant and drinkable, but nothing extraordinary.

From growler purchased several hours before tasting:
Pours slightly hazed dark mahogany with virtually no head. Not a bad color, but very poor head retention. No lacing sticks to glass.
The smell is of dark malt - some caramel. Raspberry-like fruitiness. A bit of lightly spiced yeasty bread.
The taste is toffeeish/caramelish. Lightly spiced yeast strain is there, but struggles a bit to keep up with the malt. Berry-like fruitiness is in the mix of the sweet malt. Alcohol well-covered. Finishes quite abruptly.
Very watery and under-carbonated. After awhile, it's like drinking decent-flavored water.
Not a great example of the style, though the aroma and flavor are not bad. Too weak in body and not spicy enough for the style. It's okay, but falls apart too quickly.
