On-tap at brewpub:
Pours shiny dark brown with a thin head that becomes wispy. Some lacing sticks.
The smell is of chocolate/caramel. Sweet. Balanced by a raw yeast that reminds me of an amateur homebrew.
The taste is of semi-dark malt. Enough hop touch to balance the sweetness while keeping it sweet. There seems something a bit "off" that is tough to describe, as in the aroma.
It has certain smoothness despite a certain grittiness.
Overall it's a decent amateur home-brew-like brown ale. Something a bit raw for lack of a better term about it.

Carmel-brown in color with a light tan head and nice lacing. Sweet malt aroma with a nutty character. Medium in body with a smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is much like the aroma, nutty and sweet with low hop presence that stops the brew from being overly sweet. Pretty tasty and drinkable. A good example of a nut brown.

Nutty sweet with a low to medium hop presence. A nice brown color and medium body. A tasty offering that can be thoroughly enjoyed anytime of the year. If you enjoy Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale, you will quickly become a fan of this one!
