Avenel Amber is brewed with caramel malts, giving it a medium amber color. There's good head and decent lacing.
The nose is made up of caramel malts with a hint of floral hops. The taste follows with a touch of toasted flavors and a slight hop finish at the end.
Mouthfeel is very good. Overall, the beer isn't complex, as ambers can be, but it's very well balanced and with great caramel and hop flavors.
If you're in the area, definitely stop by J.J. Bitting's. Order the beer sampler for a chance to taste everything on tap, you won't be disappointed.

a - Golden-amber, no head on the pint pour. Somewhat Hazy but looked good enough.
s - Grassy but otherwise mild. They claim 28 IBU's, I smelled little hops and there is not much malt character coming through.
t - Musty. I don't know how to describe it but maybe it was oxidization? It tasted old. Otherwise it was ok, mild malt body little hops...crowd pleaser.
m/d - Felt fine, not sticky or anything. Sessionable but really not extraordinary or something I'd want to bring a Growler of home.

Pours a clear brown amber. Flavor is smooth. Nice slightly fruity and leafy amber tone. I'm not feeling the complexity, but the overall hit of flavor is good. Smooth feel. Easy drinker. Something to order and go on all night without thinking about it.

On tap at the JJ Bitting Brew Pub.
Poured a medium to deeper amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of light toasted malts, light caramel with some orange peel in the finish. Oranges in the aroma as well.
Notes from 9/3/05

This was on-tap at J.J. Bitting on 6/28/2008. I believe this is one of their year round brews at the brewpub. It was served to me in a standard pint glass.
This Amber beer poured a yellowish copper color with a thin and small head of white foam. This small head of foam was probably caused by the pour from the tap. Whatever the size the head of foam was, it had decent retention that left behind foamy white rings along the edge and spots of white lace around the glass.
The aroma was toasted, but faint with toasted malts and bitter floral hops. Standard beer aroma, malts and hops.
The taste was light, crispy, and toasted with lightly toasted malts, a hint of juicy fruits, a slight touch of yeast, and bitter floral hops. Like that aroma, standard beer taste.
The mouthfeel was light and had a faint aftertaste of toasted malts, a hint of juicy fruits, and some bitter floral hops.
In the end, it's really nothing more than an average crispy brewpub beer. If you're looking for something that's more than just an average beer, you better order something else. This isn't it.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub.
Served as a deep reddish-amber berr with moderate ahite head.
Smell is light and caramelly.
Caramel is also evident in the taste, with a nice malty sweetness.
Finishes with more malty sweetness, but a light balancing hop presence is also detectable.
Not a great beer, but I enjoyed it.

J.J. Bitting- Avenel Amber
Appearance- Nice hazelnut brown with a thick frothy head.
Smell- Caramel malt with earthy/ dirty hop notes.
Taste- Skunky sugary caramel with a musty hop flavor.
Mouthfeel- Bland.
Overall- The worst of the lot I had at J.J Bitting's.
