Pours copperish amber with a thin head that stays. Trailing lace slides down the glass with some stickage.

The smell is yeasty with some fruitiness, caramel, and light grass/hay.

The taste is of sweet caramel candy with some graininess. Finishes sweet with a touch of balancing spiciness.

The body is medium with medium carbonation.

The yeastiness is a bit too much, but overall it's a pretty good brew. Hits on the main points of the style well enough.

This Helles Bock is a welcome addition to the long line of specialty beers that have been available at the Moon over the past few years.

Marked by a grainy and slightly toasty malt, this beautiful helles bock is a perfect example of the style! It's clear orange-amber body rests gently beneath a short but very creamy white head that holds fairly well and leaves some nice lace about the glass. The nose is clean and fresh with toasty and grainy Munich malts, and a flourish of floral hops that beckon you to imbibe. In the mouth, it's delicately zesty, fine-bubbled carbonation and medium-full body leave it with just enough vim to awaken the tastebuds before the beer slides smoothly away. Balance is what this bock is about, and it's lightly bready and toasty dose of malt is balanced by a low-lying bitterness and very subtly alcoholic bite. As it warms, the richness of the malt widens and the alcohol steps in, but it never treads beyond it's bounds. It's not intended to be a complex beer - just a rich one, and it succeeds masterfully. It's masterfully brewed, and despite it's alcohol content, it remains highly drinkable! Quite nice!!!
