just had this about 20 minutes ago, decided to pop my head in after having a kick ass meal down @ the Old Bay around the corner.
eyes...
hazy orange with a good full finger of head, very clingy all the way around, it seems to want to creep up the sides of the glass and escape... escape will come soon enough, into the waiting belly of ego muhahahahaa... ok, back to earth... a good looking apa out of the cask.
nose...
like being accosted by cascade hops. it smells like what I picture the west coast to be, super fresh aroma from the dry hopping is immediate and not overly floral, it smells "green" like fresh picked vegetables .. of course these are my favorite greens, hops. in the back end of the nose there is a definite tangy orange smell also, man this one really makes me salivate and anticipate so therefore I proclimate this is one damn nice smellin APA (sorry for the jesse jackson moment...) you can even pick up some of the malt with a slight toasted tone mixed in... thank god the NJ smoking law is in effect now ! I would have been pissed if this was ruined by some damn cheap ass marlboro... the freshness of the hop aroma is fantastic, this smells as good as "hazed and infused" imo
taste etc...
the mouthfeel is hard to gauge, the body is a touch thin but yet this is silky and almost creamy like guiness. mostly I liked it but at times it felt watery... the carbonation is "just" short of prickly and works well here.
the flavor is balanced with just a hint of over the top american hopping, so this is definitely in the APA range and not IPA territory but it is certainly flirting with the line between the two. this is so easy to drink it's retah-ded, I downed the pint way too easily.. and wanted more, but driving through highland park is risky so screw that, I can go back and have another some other time. The balance of the sweetness in the malt really plays off the hop profile, while this isn't lip smacking refreshing it has just enough hop bite to keep a hop head interested.. and the aroma.. maron...
verdict?
I'll be back on my day off for another pint, I really enjoyed this one, nearly dead on for an APA, I was impressed.
