eyes...
a touch dark for a heffe, carmel color I would guess.. maybe the color of those kraft caramel things I remember having as a kid. good fluffy white head, retention is good as is the lacing (all the way down the glass)
nose...
whoa... like wheat on crack, this might be the strongest smelling hefe I have passed under my beak, I rate this as good but for a hefe purist the huge wheat nose might be off putting. it is missing the bannana/clove tone and doughy tones... but man is the odor strong and interesting.. this admitedly might be a personal preference here.
taste...
like the nose this is a bit too wheaty, you kind of get tired of getting hit over the head with wheat flavor. and it isn't buckwheat, otay ? mouthfeel is a bit heavy for a hefe. I can't call this refreshing like a typical hefe but it is enjoyable as a "take" on the style. Even though this is technically out of balance I kind of enjoy it, although I would not have more than one in a session.
verdict?
a tasty take on the style, and an interesting one. Not your mother's hefe weizen. worth a try.
from the bar top talker:
"Brewed with 40% wheat, Munich malt and a variety of noble hops, this beer is crisp, sweet and thirst quenching. Try it with a slice of orange for a Summer treat. 5.3% abv."
