From growler purchased the night before trying.
Pours black - thin head - soon becomes a thin, lasting patch.
The smell is of raspberry with some rasted smokiness in background. The chocolate is very subtle.
The taste is of sweet raspberries upfront, in somewhat of a syropy way. Hints of chocolate and roasted dark grains (which gives it a slight smokiness) come through to support the raspberry. A surprising hint of earthy hop bitterness comes through in the finish, though sweetness still in charge, along with a sharp alcohol bite.
Body is slightly thinner than expected for style, but maintains a fair amount of creaminess.
Overall, it's a decent stout, especially if you don't mind assertive rasberry flavoring. Fine for a dessert beer, but nothing to have more than one or two of, IMO..
