Poured from growler into IPA glass
A-Aggressive pour produces big off white foamy 2 inch head which leaves moderate lacing on the glass. Color-dark amberish, reddish hue, clear...one of the darker IPAs that I have seen
S-a bit faint, some mild citrus and pine, some brown sugar, sweetness
T-having a hard time picking up distinct flavors, hops certainly not overpowering as the sweetness of the malts keeps them in balance, some citrus hops perhaps a combo of pineapple, mango and grapefruit some lemon zest at the finish, slight bitter aftertaste, hints of pine
M-a bit thin, very little carbonation, very slick and a bit soapy
O-no dominant flavors as the malts and hops compete for the tastebuds, solid beer, very drinkable as the alcohol is hidden., would benefit from some kick to make the beer a bit more exciting

Cricket Hill Simcoenotic, on tap at Rye House, NYC (review from notes)
Appearance: Served in a 12-oz snifter, Simcoenotic comes with a mahogany color, lightly transparent. More like a barleywine. Half finger of head, doesn't last. Some lacing left behind.
Smell: Malty, spicy. Dy. Coconut, distant tropical aromas. Pickled pineapple. Orange peel, microplaned lemon zest.
Taste: Piney, dry. Say and soap. Cooked grapefruit, slightly bitter pomelo and freshly-polished bannister. Malts are almost absent here, unlike in Weyerbacher's Double Simcoe. Tad of the sweetness at the end.
Mouthfeel: A little thin but very flavorful. Dry, tangy in the mouth. Almost soapy at the end. Medium carbonation, could use a little kick all around.
Overall: Drinks well, taste fine. Not too boozy. Not exciting either (needs complexity) but promising enough. Can't hold a candle to Double Simcoe, but it is a more than fair use of the mighty Simcoe hop.
