From A Howler purchased at Liquor Shed for $5.
Nice dark brown with reddish highlights, it produces a small but persistent head of foam with some good lacing.
The aromas I'm getting are a nice mix of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. And not to forget to mention, there's some hoppy activity going on.
The roasted malt in the taste is almost a burnt malt, bringing some bitterness along with the hoppy bitterness. The chocolate adds a touch of sweetness and the coffee adds, well, a coffee taste. This is only 7.1%abv but I'm getting some definite warming.
Medium bodied, same for the carbonation.
This is packed with flavours but I think for a Winter Warmer, it relies too heavily on the bitterness. More Malt sweets would perhaps balance things out and make this brew more drinkable for me.
