Growler style bought at Liquor Shed for $10.99
It pours a clear reddish dark brown with a small and short lived head of foam. From that, I reckoned that there would be minimal to no lacing...yep. Still, the colour is gorgeous.
A mixed bag of aromas here; some lovely sweetness that is maple syrup like with some chocolate. Some light spice of clove, got a mild banana smell from it. Belgian yeast working its wonders.
Sweet up front, again reminding me of maple syrup, but there's a solid chocolate presence as well and takes over that aspect of the beer. Spice is clove mainly, but something else, perhaps nutmeg, is there with hints of dark fruits but more so of bananas. Pretty smooth overall.
Medium bodied with the carbonation on the light side.
I couldn't find any info on this beer other than a few check ins at another site so I posted a question aboot it on Lander"s Facebook page. Here's what they replied with:
"Light brown ale with hints of cocoa and caramel malt. Mild banana esters with clove and nutmeg-like phenols from a classic Trappist yeast strain. 6.67 ABV"
Bottom line, a well crafted Abbey Dubbel.
