Poured from the growler, it's really a very dark brown where you can see some reddish highlights. A 1" head of tannish foam sits with some good lacing on the glass.

I can smell some citrus hoppiness, mostly grapefruit, maybe a hint of some malt but I'm not sure.

The taste is pretty much all hops. Grapefruit citrus gives it a bitter bite that fades somewhat near the finish. The finish is about the sweetest part of the brew...sweetest as in maltiest. A pretty simple example of the style that's a good taster but most Black Ales are to me.

Medium bodied with a light level of carbonation, the mouthfeel is just okay.

A decent stab at the style by Lander Brewing.
