Bomber thanks to Arbitrator.

Pours mostly clear penny-copper in color with a two-finger foamy white head that fades to a thick foam layer.

Smells like old resinous hops, sweet malts, and green apple.

The flavor is sweet and malty. Pale and caramel. The hop profile is fairly muted, mainly orange and resin.

Decent palate - medium body with medium-high carbonation.

A pretty average IPA, possibly a little past prime, but not bad if you consider it a barleywine. May have been a little old, but with no bottling date, I can't give it a break on this.

Way darker than average color, get them SRM #'s going. Aroma was hot alcohol and earthy London tea shop with burton wood.

Taste dropped lots of heat again, not enough hops. Just a big mix of all the things that make a double ipa not good. The malt body is there but this just comes across like an old ale or a barleywine moreso, just misses the hop edge to it, swallowed by all the other big stuff.

Great IPA! Poured slightly cold with a giant, foamy, frothy, fluffy, cream-colored head that lasts a long time and plenty of lace. Color is a hazy, medium amber with some tiny bubble trails. Aroma is an aromatic blend of hop, caramel, malt, fruit. Flavor's like nose has hop bitter up front, followed smartly with caramel, toffee, malt, fruit sweetness and a little carbonation. Body is good with carbonation a tad light. Finish is like flavor, of average length, and very drinkable.

Poured from the bottle into a Hill Farmstead wine/tulip beer goblet.

A real nice red amber, and brown mixed body, gives to orange hues. Yellow off white head and creamy somewhat with tiny soap bubbles but all holding well with lots of retention and staying power. A good glow and hue to this beer, real nice.

Nose is a nice malt sweet caramel, herbal tea hop like presence. A little chewy and leafy it seems like fresh hop ale. Very nice.

Taste hits with a nice mix of sweet caramel and hop chewy action. Lingering pine like bitterness with hints of light maple and brown sugars. Clean. Large but not syrupy palate feel with good oily coating character. Almost seems oak aged.

Overall pretty solid, and enjoyable, like the malt sweetness angle on this with a good hop chew. Not a hop heads brew.

Appearance. Deep amber with a little haze and over a finger of pale yellow head.

Smell. Huge sweet caramel malt and floral, citrus hops

Taste. Sweet caramel malt and big citrus hops, a little pine sap and a big bitter finish with orange and grapefruit rinds.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with smooth, medium-low carbonation. Just a little alcohol warmth.

Overall. This is one big ipa. Lots of malt and sweetness but big hops to back it up.

A: Poured a clear burnt orange color with god carbonation and a nice white cap

S: Caramel, floral and some citrus

T: Caramel malt, not a hop bomb and it was evident from the first sip. It was a big balanced IIPA. God forbid someone make something that is not a Cali IIPA here...while some knock it for being malty, I call it BALANCED. Its not a new concept

M: Sordove, warm, medium to big body, plenty of pine and floral notes, bread n caramel.

O: Good

A: poured a brownish golden orange with yellow highlights and had a thin head leaving a little lacing sticking to the glass.

S: piney hops upfront with grassy earthy character but had caramel, citrus grapefruit and sweetness from the malts.

T: the piney hop flavor was more prominent on the taste alongside citrus grapefruit, caramel, earthy accents and a decent malty balance.

M: the brew was medium in body with a fair amount of carbonation which had a sweet, citrusy, malty, mild piney hoppy bitter finish.

D: it was drinking pretty damn good but the hoppy bite was really weak and was not too punchy in the bitterness area.

Originally reviewed on 13-May-07.

A 22 oz bomber purchased from Liquid Solutions.

A: The ale is a the brown color of an amber bottle with a general haziness. The head was sizeable on pour, almost 3 fingers with extensive lacing.

S: The nose is full of floral hops and a surprising amount of malty sweetness.

T: I've noticed that several recent DIPAs that I've had have blurred the lines between IPA and barleywine, having big hops and big malts. This beer is no exception. It is floral, full of citrusy hops, grapefruit and even some pine. Directly linked to the hops is a big sweet malty mouth, grainy with some green grape tartness. The finish refocuses on the hops.

M: The ale is a nice mix of the styles, showcasing big malts and big hops. The flavors mesh well and go down smoothly.

D: The alcohol is well hidden but the body is just too big to enjoy frequently. This would be good on a cold/chilly night.

Dark brown pour, has the Seattle skyline, space needle etc. . . on the bottle. Aroma was alcohol and an almost imperial tea like vibe going.

Taste, everything was big on this beer, alcohol, malt, hops. Unfortunately, for style, the hops didn't shine. Tasted like a strong ale, like a mix of Eye of the Hawk and Old Stock. For a big relatively cheap buzz, I guess this gets some drinkability points.

Chilled bomber into a glass. A generous gift from ramnuts. Thanks, Frank!

A: Pours a clear orange amber. It's well carbed, and it retains a solid foam cap while I drink -- which, unfortunately, isn't long.

S: Malty, with toffee, caramel, and butter.

T: Toffee.. Caramel... Butter. Some pine hops are present, almost as an afterthought. This is either very old (with a solid malt foundation, albeit off flavors of diacetyl) so it has aged somewhat gracefully, or it is fresh and just badly brewed. It's insanely malty for something passing itself off as an IPA for a West Coast bottleshop. I also don't think it's that old, as Bottleworks is supposed to be a great shop and they probably wouldn't sell old product (right?).

M: Slightly warming, with a malty finish. Carbonation is scrubbing.

D: I'm not sure when this was made; if it's fresh, it's way too malty to be mistaken for a West Coast DIPA. I'd accept it as a barleywine, and that's about it. Everyone threw out their pours; my by usual standard, I can't give a drainpour over a D. Sorry Frank....

22 oz. bottle from John's Marketplace PDX, poured into HOTD tulip.

Clear orange amber body, numerous streams of carbonation rising from bottom of glass. One finger white head, medium dissipation with some significant lingering lacing. Sweetish nose, bubblegum, some tropical fruit, sweetish malt, floral hops. Taste is sweetish upfront, tropical fruit and resiny hops in the middle, with a slightly bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel, very good effervescence, goodly bit of stickiness. A bit hot, alcohol fairly noticeable, one is gonna be enough. One of better WA DIPAs. Worth a try for DIPA fans.

22oz bottle.

Pours clear, dark copper with a tight head of inch-plus white. Smeary lacing and a solid skim of foam for the duration.

Aromatics feature plump, juicy hops, ripe malt, and pine. Citrus-laden and dewy with powdery resin.

Medium bodied with a gummy, sticky mouthfeel. Grippy.

Bright citrus fruit with pine sap and doughy malt. A solid, lingering bitterness quickly steps forward along with grapefruit, spruce dew, and candied resin.

Finishes slightly warming and sweet, with plenty of chewy, juicy hops.

Tasty one. Rather malt-forward and the nose isn't blastingly pungent, but pretty well put together and fresh.
