Part of a beer gift from a friend. Malty sweet caramel—and that’s pretty much it. Simple amber ale, not very complex; no lacing, a bit too carbonated for my tastes, actually a touch of soapiness on the nose and in the finish. Sorry to put a knock on this microbrew but it’s barely average.

My good friend and old neighbor from the 'Wego gave me a bottle of this beer. It poured a clear amber with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had very nice caramel malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base and subtle bitter finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

On tap at Cheney Stadium.

Never heard of this until I saw it at stadium. Choice was this or macro. Glad I found it.

Consistent color, chocolatey and smooth taste. Finishes well. Just one of these left me feeling a bit woozy. Good stuff. Will definitely order again.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Medium light copper color with great clarity. Little over a half finger off white head with decent retention and good lacing.

S: Malty with caramel and a touch of toffee. Earthy hops you'd sort of expect in an amber. Slight floral notes.

T: Caramel malts with some biscuity flavors. A very subtle earthy, grassy, floral hop profile that works.

M: Light body. Medium carbonation. Crisp with a touch of dryness.

O: Good beer for a small brewery. Not over the top or lacking at all. Pretty solid.

Poured into16oz stange. Poured a typical brown amber color with a solid off white head that had very good retention and decent lacing.

The aroma was mostly the typical biscuity malt, but had an added zing of hops at the back. The flavor was also biscuit malt with a nice dose of citrusy hops at the back. The beer had a nice, dry finish.

The body was fuller and more well rounded than a lot of the style. Drinkability was excellent. It would be very easy to slide several of these down the throat. Overall, this is a livelier, tastier and better example of the style than some of the more well-known examples that were the introduction to craft beer for so many of us. This beer deserves your attention.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. This is labeled "Dick's Mountain Amber Ale" now.

Appearance: golden-amber with a hint of cloudiness. 1 finger of pillowy head.

Smell: grassy and malty.

Taste: grassy, earthy, perhaps biscuity. This has a taste similar to Fat Tire and some other ambers I've had. I'll admit it's not my favorite, but I'll try to be fair to the style here. I think it could possibly grow on me if given enough of a chance.

Mouthfeel: a little on the heavy side, almost syrupy. I would also appreciate a little bit more carbonation.

Drinkability: I just don't feel like I could down too many of these.

Mountain Ale
Poured amber with a one inch head that dimished rapidly. Modest lacing.
Taste is malty and bitter. There is a certain sour aftertaste that made this amber different. Well balanced overall with a dry astringent finish.
Not bad for an Amber Ale. Could be a bit sweeter though for the type. Drinkability is exceptional due to abv. of 5.0%.

I'm not sure what gives this ale it's mountain name, but it is not from a load of head. This beer looks OK with a classic amble hue but it is missing some co2. Only a thin film of head was left after I poured this beer. Taste is more malty than a traditional amble and not as sweet and caramely as it should be. It also has a bit of tartness coming through that is not so suitable with the style. Mouthfeel is medium but without a decent carb level it doesn't produce. Overall this beer is missing a couple key components which leaves is short.

cheers

The Dick's Mountain Ale poured a clear reddish color with a a 1 and a half finger foam head with some good sudsy lacing.

The aroma was strongly malted, and of butterscotch and honey. The taste was a biscuity malty and real sweet. It finished with caramel and and a light bitterness. It was medium bodied with an average feel to it. Overall a very middle of the road amber.

12 oz. bottle poured into a shaker, Dick's nice darker, murky bronze with a large light tan head that subsides pretty quickly leaving light lace.

Smell is sweet brown sugar and dusty pine scented hops.

Taste is also nice and malty, only semi-sweet, although seemly a bit underattenuated, slightly acidic with lots of nice hop flavor on the dry finish.

Mouthfeel dry and refreshing, with a lighter body.

Drinkability is quite high, this is a delicous and easy drinking amber. From the first couple sips I new I really loved this amber ale, one of the best over a longer term tasting of them lately.

Appearance – This is very dark for an AAA, promising a strong malt backbone. The head was nice and heavy. This is a good-looking ale.

Smell – The malt base is a bit grainy but strong and balanced with sugars. The hops are PacNWy and unabashed. The pine especially is big for the style but it still retains a balance towards malt.

Taste – Yes, this is a big boy. The malts really sugar up at the taste and the hops don’t let up a bit. You could probably even age the flavors a bit for blending.

Mouthfeel – This is a solid medium-bodied ale with some light carbonation and a sweet, chewy mouthfeel.

Drinkability – I was pleasantly surprised at this offering from Dick’s Brewing. If you find the American Amber Ale style a bit boring at times and are fortunate enough to live in the Northwest, give this fella a try.

The label has been appended to read "Mountain Amber Ale." With the eagle and Native American artwork, this is one of Dick's better looking labels; some of them are really cheesy, like the lightning bolts on the Danger ale, or that one on the winter ale bottle of Dick all decked out in rad ski gear. But enough about labels! How's the beer? It's decidedly average, an amber ale that is skewed towards the light end of the spectrum. It pours a hearty copper with a reasonably good head and lace, with a nice earthy aroma from the yeast. The taste is lackluster, with a limp malt base and a light, almost invisible, floral hop quality. I got a chunk of yeast in the pour, and while it was pleasant in the aroma, it overwhelms the flavor with a spent, dirty quality. I suggest you pour it more carefully than I did. Mouthfeel is thin, especially for Dick's, whose bottle-conditioning usually provides a full, velvety mouthfeel if nothing else. On the whole, this is not an especially interesting beer.
