Poured from 12 oz bottle. Deep amber, clear, with medium white head receding to a persistent ring. Smells of rich malt, caramel, bread. Tastes similar to aroma with added hop bitterness and deeply roasted malt that leaves a slight chalky coating on the tongue. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Like a lot of big beers, I enjoyed this one more as it warmed a bit.

Dick's Barley Wine has a medium, cream-colored head and a translucent tan appearance, with some lacing. The aroma is of caramel and dates. The flavor is of brown bread crust, dates, and low bitterness. It has a high-medium body, with a slightly-chalky mouth-feel and a dry finish.

My good friend and old neighbor from the 'Wego gave me a bottle of this beer. The beer poured a clear amber with off white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had subtle caramel malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink for a 9.9% abv beer. There was good malt base and crisp hop finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a good beer.

Part of a four way blind tasting of barleywine.
Pours a dark copper color with minimal head and decent carbonation.
Smell is spicy, kind of like a winter warmer. Red fruit smell.
Taste is pretty fruity, and more hopped, but it was a pretty one-dimensional barley wine. Weakest of the four.
