From notes.
Poured from a 500ml bottle.
Pours a deep brown with an off white head, mild hops and a nice earthiness being the main characteristics of the smell. The flavour is full, hops, malt, toffee and diacetyl, very good. There is a sweetness, hints of sweetness and a mild bitterness. Creamy in the mouth, good viscosity.
A very satisfying bitter.

Outstanding ale. Distinctive, full flavour, perfectly balanced. Never disappoints. Shining example of cask ale.

On draught at ‘Town of Ramsgate’ pub in Wapping, London. Freshly tapped barrel.
L: Clear, dark chestnut colour with a thin, creamy head that leaves arcs of lacing.
S: Sweet and fruity but light.
T: Plums, raisins, rich tea biscuit, toffee.
F: Exceptionally smooth. Coats the mouth. Leaves a long & bitter finish.
O: Looking at other reviews, this beer is best on cask. It’s a sweet, rich & fruity English bitter with an exquisite mouthfeel. A pint of autumnal cheer.

L- Deep chestnut brown. Pours with 5mm white head, that clears quickly to lacing.
S- Ale'ish old comfy leather sofas
T- Toasty, bright, malts, toasty, in that order for me; very nice
F- Well, aligned to being 4% it's refreshing. Together with a decent flavour.
O- Very nice bitter, could drink this all pm. This is what I recall as a default style of beer from my youth in the early 80s, straight-forward, no shouty vogueish hops, a solid/decent brew.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of May 2018. Purchased a while back from Waitrose. The label calls it a best bitter brewed with Maris Otter and hopped with Bramling Cross and Northdown.
A: Poured into a pint mug. A deep reddish-chestnut hue with good clarity and intense carbonation. Produces a decent head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of rich fruity malt with hints of subtle roasted grain, caramel, barley sugar, mild dried fruit, ale yeast, hay and faint leafy hops. Traditional yet distinctive - nice.
T: Tastes of fruity malt with notes of roasted grain, caramel, subtle dried fruit, leafy hops, faint hay and ale yeast. Quite dry, followed by a substantial leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Little bit too fizzy. Aftertaste of bitter stewed hops, leafiness, caramel malt, a vague fruitiness and ale yeast.
O: S'OK, though would almost certainly be better on cask. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are a balanced blend of fruity caramel malt, leafy hops and ale yeast. Decent body; perhaps a shade on the thin side. Drinkable but I don't think the bottled version shows this beer in the best light. Seek it out on cask.

Bottled
Pours a copper body with decent enough white head
The aroma is literally like a really great bread dough, malt and yeast and some pepper
Spent hurly sweet barley taste leads to bitter finish

Hand pulled at JDW.
Chestnut brown. Beige frothy head.
Sweet caramel/toffee malt aroma.
Leafy hops balanced by the strong sweet malt. Light bitter completion.
Quite smooth. Decent cask conditioning.
Standard English malty bitter and all the better for it.
