A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2018. Purchased a while back from Waitrose. Brewed on behalf of Mr. Trotter (purveyor of fine pork crackling), this brown ale includes chestnuts in the recipe and is hopped with English Cascade and Bramling Cross.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A deep reddish-marmalade colour with faint sediment and modest carbonation. Forms a smallish head of frothy off-white foam that settles and dissipates almost immediately.
S: Aroma of sweet caramel malt with hints of honey, barley sugar, grain, mild nuttiness, ale yeast, subtle leafiness and faint spice. Surprisingly sweet but balanced.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with notes of barley sugar, grain, nuttiness, subtle honey, ale yeast, hay, leafiness and a touch of spice. Quite sweet, followed by a moderate bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body. Could be a tad creamier for the style. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of caramel malt, barley, mild honey, ale yeast and stewed hops.
O: OK but a bit pedestrian. Subpar looks; the head retention needs work. Aroma and flavour are a mix of caramel, sweet malt, hints of honey, ale yeast and leafy hops. Reasonable body. Drinkable but muddled, though the chestnuts are an interesting addition. Worth trying I guess, but don't go out of your way.

Bottle. Light chestnut colour. Thin creamy head.
Malt aroma is apparent along with digestive biscuit.
Quite sweet. The taste is similar to the smell. Bitter finish.
Rather flat on the palate even with effervescence present.
Pleasant enough.

Bottled
A collaboration between Lancaster Brewery and Mr Trotters pork scratchings. A ruby Chestnut ale.
Slightly lighter than what I would call chestnut brown with nice big foamy off white head
Smells of malt & fruit not unlike brown sauce
Very malty slightly soapy slight bitter finish
a bit thin
I like a good brown ale and even though it's not a style with huge flavours
this is a bit flat

Pleasantly astringent, this beer has a flavour which reminds me of, but isn't, berry, after which the hops rather stealthily take over at turns plain bitter, herbal and finally spicy.
