Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a dark brown, appearing nearly opaque mahogany brown in the glass. Fine two finger light brown head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet toasted malt, light chocolate and a hint of sharp mineral. Flavor is unusual, with toasted and bready malt seemingly in competition with cola and a slightly tangy fruit component. Finishes with sweet malt, fruit juice and a bit of sourness. Medium bodied with good carbonation. A kind of strange take on a porter, that seems at odds with itself, with slightly sour fruit flavors melded with dark malt. Very possibly a slightly off bottle. I've enjoyed this brewery for its very malty offerings and a porter seems like a perfect malt heavy vehicle, but this is a porter of a different stripe. Interesting, but not the mellow malt bomb I hoped for.
