On Tap at Peaks Pub, Port Angeles 1/20/07. Actually called Bad Az Spruce now. 13% ABV. Served in a 7 oz glass.
Beautiful rich yellow color, with a decent, small head. Definately a Belgian style ale. Infused with Alaskan spruce tips. Somewhat sweet, not at all surprising for a beer with this high an ABV. Very drinkable however. The spruce flavor is not overpowering, but rather lurking in the background.
A very interesting brew, worth seeking out if you are in Port Angeles.

Talked to the brewer Ed about this beer, and got of description of a Belgian ale with spruce. Scared me a little in spite of the evidence in my glass. With a small bit of experience with homebrewed spruce ales as well as Poor Richard's Tavern Ale, supposed Ben Franklin's recipe to use spruce tips when revolutionary hops weren't available, neither of which prepared me for Ed's version.
Spruce Juice is clearly a Belgian with a light white head over a golden amber color. Yeasty nose is quite apparent with lots of fruity esters and an oily characteristic. Strong, though I don't know the alcohol content, it is clearly high with the hot taste of a strong Belgian pale ale, thus why I picked it as the style since herbed/spiced ale is being removed from BA. All of this has the light, but clear and distinct spice of spruce blended into the beer taste and nose. Very excellent and well balanced. Call Ed, see if the Spruce Juice is on tap and drive up to Port Angeles for a truly unique beer experience.
