Definitely crazy carbonation - even cold, even a decent pour, and I had half a glass of foam. The taste has that dark malt flavor and almost a licorice taste, but the hops are also there in force. An interesting beer - had they gone more savory it would remind me of Blakkr (my favorite Black IPA), as is it is definitely more to my taste than some of what is out there.

This won a bronze medal in 2013 at GABF in the American Style Black Ale category. That's the category, but they call it a Black IPA. On tap at Fifty Seven Degrees in San Diego.
In any case this is a hoppy but not very bitter dark brew. Attractive brown-beige head on the reddish dark brown beer in the pint shaker. About the darkest foam I've ever seen. Quite light bodied.
Nicely malty with some faint sweetness, but it seems close to the charred and sourish edge. It's quite drinkable, however, with a winey, dark grainy tasate that is quite distinctive. I wouldn't call it an IPA, but the hops are team players. Tangy sensation overall.
