On tap at G.G. Brewers on 1/20/11. Stopped in before the Trailer Park Boys show!
A - Hazy reddish copper body with large carbonation bubbles and a bubbly off-white head that reduced to a patchy film, producing very little lacing, if any at all.
S - Sweet caramel and toffee notes as well as a very faint smokey presence. Hop aroma is subtle at best and offers just a smidgen of weak citrus notes. There is a sweet fleshy fruit character to the aroma akin to apple or canned pears.
T - This is indeed quite malty and mimics the aroma in that the fleshy tree fruit attributes carry over to the flavor profile. The sweet and sugary taste gives this more of a canned fruit or candy character, while the minimal hop presence does little to quell the sweetness or offer further depth of flavor. Finishes with a mild medicinal bitter aspect.
M - Medium bodied with a syrupy texture and moderate carbonation. Sweet with lots of stickiness on the palate. Not much bitterness at all.
D - This would be a pretty solid homebrew. Given its description, it certainly sounded more appealing on the chalkboard. That said, this wasn't BAD per se. It just wasn't too flavorful. Perhaps this beer would benefit from the addition of more smoked malts or more assertive hopping.

A rye ale with smoked malt added. Fun name let's see how this one shapes up.
A-Lightly hazed copper with a wispy off-white head that leaves minimal.spotty lace.
S-Lightly spicy sweet malt base with a subtle hint of smoke. Kinda like taking a big whiff of a sandwich made with Virginia ham.
T-Nothing bad but nothing good either. Rather meh overall. Light spicy sweetness with just a touch of smokiness.
M-Medium light bodied fairly sharp, biting with minimal lingering spiciness and smoke character.
D-Certainly nothing crazy here....a rauchbier with training wheels. As I said previously, nothing bad but nothing good either....very pedestrian for a style that has a lot going for it.
