01/07/06- Purchased at Sun Devil Liquors in Mesa, AZ.

Presentation- 12oz bottle with no feshness info. Poured into a chalice like glass.

Appearance- Light amber colored pour, 1/2 inch creamy head with light patches of lace. Heavy yeast globules throuought the glass. Should have used a strainer.

Smell- Light hop scent. More on the pine side if anything. Light malt scent as well.

Taste- Rather yeasty, unless it's still the last Casta taste I have in my mouth. Mild pine hop bite with a mid range toasted malt prescence. Not really fruity, but maybe a light herbal bite.

Mouthfeel- Lighter than average carbonation level. Crisp and clean, bit of yeasty aftertaste long after the beer is finished.

Drinkability- Not bad, but nothing to special here. Just thought I would grab it while I could find it.

Clear yellow, present in its color; smell slightly fruity, like green malt, taste well balanced, harmonious, soft body, and clean, but this not my favorite style; special for american cuisine; serve in a pint glass, or in a pilsner; this brewery it is making craft beers of much warm, very commendable one by the way; this beer is 70% recommended.

Pours a clear deep golden ale with a good white head. It lives up to its name.

Smell is rich and malty with a touch of honey to the malt. Toasted grain and light fruitiness. Light citrus hop completes the scent of this beer.

Taste is not too sweet as feared. Mild sweetness and toast wheat is the first flavors with a touch of honey and flowers. Mild spice from the hops is the next thing that grabs your attention. Mild herbal hop flavor completes the taste profile here.

Mouthfeel is good.

Drinkability is the most outstanding quality of this beer. It manages to pull off the Golden ale style without dumbing it down or making it too sweet, common faults of this style. Extremely drinkable beer that I can recommend.

Sept 30/2005 Update:
Had two of what most probably will be the very last Casta Doradas since the brewery is scaling down. These I found in a convinience store and I plan to go and buy everything they have.

This time I noticed that it's head isn't exactly white, but maybe a little clearer than tan.

I upgraded its smell one notch due to its fruitiness, very pleasant indeed.

Its taste doesn´t stand up to its smell, but Dorada isn't a bad ale at all.

Has a crisp yet buttery aftertaste.

Drinkability? Well, as long as I still have some.

Please forgive any possible bias here, this microbrewery is the only one in my town.

Casta Dorada pours a nice golden orange yellow, with a white short living head and good lacing.

It's smell is fruity, some malt and hops also.

Taste is crisp and fuzzy due to carbonation.

Mouthfeel has a little maltiness and a dry aftertaste.

I buy this one often, especially when weather is not above 80's.

Well, this beer is also good, gold coloured, but really not my type. Althoug I can say good things about it. IT is craft made and that makes it good for degustation, not for drinking a lot in the same day. I like its brightness and the art in the bottle is awesome.

Golden/Amber color, good white foamy head that hags to the glass all the way down, i liked the looks of this beer. Malty aroma, a little sweet maybe a little citric. Creamy mouthfeel, decent body, in some sips i would not like the bitterness of this beer, but overall it was all good, a little sweet also.

Nice beer

The beer pours an amber, rather ooh-long-tea like colour, with a fast-disappearing white beerhead... The aroma is slightly tartly sweet, like the smell of "sweet date juice" (a kind of refreshing summer drink in Chinese societies), which is at the same time candyish malty against the backdrop of peachy, perfumy hoppy note...overall it's slightly too sweet for me, but nice nevertheless. On the palate, first arrives is a slightly sharp mouthfeel of malts, followed by a date-kind of fruity taste on the tongue... going down well with a flowery, lively hoppy taste lingering at the back. Yet the aftertaste is disappointingly watery and thin, with a residual sugary touch, hence dragging down the pleasant mouthfeel upfront. Overall the mouthfeel is smooth, but the body is not clearly structured and a bit thin at times... An average beer, whose aroma speaks louder than the taste.

12oz bottle purchased as a single at Villa Spirits Shoppe, Storrs, CT.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" white head over the clear golden brew. Head hangs around well, and excellent lacing. Aroma is lightly of sweet pale malt and fruity hops. Taste is similar to the nose, with bitterness balancing with the pale sweetness throughout. Mouthfeel is better than average, and drinkability is good. Worth a try.

Label states special & unique brew 100% Barley, Hops, Yeast but no freshness date info. Drawing of an Aztec woman in front of a mountain range.

Clear & bright golden hay hues topped with an uneven eggshell 1/4" cap.

Light aromatic honey floral notes, and hints of bland cheese.

First swigs: Hints of metallic mineral malts meet apple juice. Dry aftertaste with a vegetal linger. Off putting aftertaste like a wayward kolsch.

Medium bodied with a spongy carbonation feel. Metallic aftertaste detracts from drinkability.

Last swigs: Tastes like when you lick an envelope glue strip. Really! Nothing special. Pass on this one. Regretable and forgetable.

Ok my first Casta beer..its been a long time coming.
Must say I like the design of the bottle very smart!.
Very good lookng Golden Ale, golden colour of course with a lovelly frothy white head, that stays for quite a while.
Very good strong malty aroma, slighly medicinal, honeyish.
Nice taste too smooth and creamy with a nice honey sweet malty taste, there is a slight hop bittering at the end, nice pleasant aftertaste.
Very smooth almost silky on the palte well done.
Very nice beer from Mexico..excellent drinkability.

A very bright an lively beer. Fruity hops in both aroma and flavor up front, apricot came to mind. Full-bodied malt, with a touch of caramel lurking in the background. One of the hoppier golden ales, with hopping more in line with what one usually finds in a pale ale (and this seemed hoppier than Casta's Bruna pale ale). Of the casta line I've tried, this is the best of the lot.

Nice clean yellow brew with a light foamy head that gives a peek of lace. There is a sweet smell a mixes with a light hop boquet for an interesting aroma. At first sip you get the sweetness at the front of your tongue and a nicley balanced hoppiness at the back and both finish smoothly together. The aroma and the finish of this beer makes it an interesting diversion.

From the usual elegant-looking Casta bottle, it pours clear gold with a medium-sized white head that leaves just a bit of bubbly trace at the top of the glass. The smell is on the sweet side, with just enough hops to be noticeable. I tried this one about an hour after sampling Casta's wheat ale (Triguera), and they taste surprisingly similar. Fortunately, Dorada doesn't have quite the sugary sweetness of Triguera. The better balance improves the flavor and makes it much more drinkable than the wheat.

Let me thank my girlfriend for caring about me enough to smuggle these back into the US for me from her semester abroad in Mexico. She found three of the Casta products at one of her favorite bars in her city, which sadly closed a few weeks before she came back. Appearance: Filtered golden vibrant white head leaves nice even bars of lacing excellent appearance for a golden ale. Aroma: A pleasant blend of spices, honey, and piney tones along with bready yeast notes in the nose as well. Taste: Biscuit malts bready but nice with a smooth sweet finish with honey highlights and spice mild but nice. Mouthfeel: Lighter bodied even carbonation I can't complain. Drinkability: Excellent session ale if just getting into craft beer you could find yourself a convert with this one, this must be like an oasis when down in the land of shitty beer.

Dorada pours a pale golden color with a sizable head which falls back but lingers. When held to light you can see particulates in the brew. Complex aroma of sweet malt, hops, and a slight spicy aroma. The flavor is complex and begins thin and watery but quickly evolves into a huge fullness on the palate. The finish then heads toward dry and slightly bitter.

the complexity of the aroma and of the flavor is very enjoyable.

Presentation: One of two fancy looking 12 fluid ounce brown bottles that grabbed my attention at the beer store, the other was the Wheat Ale. The bottle is tall with a long thin neck, and has a raised shoulder which is embossed with the Brewery’s logo (a shield of sorts). The neck label list the beer as Dorada, the main label, which has a cool painting from the Mexican Artist Rodolfo Morales, has the words Casta Wheat Ale. No freshness date or strength listed. The bottle is very distinctive and looks very appealing – so it does its job. Well presented and it looks pretty cool.

Appearance: Pours with a lovely bleached white head. Huge amounts of initial carbonation and streamers in the translucent shining gold body. Plenty of lacing on the tall glass that I used, incredible spider-web patterns cling to the glass walls as the drink is imbibed and the fluid level lowers in the Glass. Good conditioning in this beer.

Nose: Light nose in strength, hints of pilsner like malts, biscuit, toast and some citric fruitiness.

Taste: Like the Wheat Ale I had earlier, it starts with a sweet malt entrance, but with a much lower intensity. Builds with clean lines to a tasty malt middle. Some grainy interspersion with a mild hop character. The ending had a very light grapefruit feel. Maybe I make this sound “weak”, but it tastes just fine, and is rather moreover, truly light in character as opposed to “weak” – but it is tasty nonetheless. Clean.

Mouthfeel: Very delicately poised between thin and light, more in favor of light – just. I wish this had a little more body though. This is actually a true Light Beer for me. Light in body (NOT Carbs.) but with plenty of taste to remain appealing – well, to me at least.

Drinkability: Very drinkable, and easily quaffed. No complaints apart from the initial sweetness that puts me off this a bit, as it did with the Wheat Ale - but that’s merely because I am not a fan of sweetness, rather than a complaint about the beer itself.

Overall: A good light Golden Ale, which has its own character, is clean, refreshing and easily imbibed. Nice effort. Not bad at all.

This beer smells fairly clean, perhaps a hint of hay in the aroma. A nice fruity flavor, very untypical of a golden ale (at least an American version). A Golden color with a bit of Copper highlights. Very interesting, probably the best golden ale I have had. Normally a breweries golden or light ale is s chance to get the unwashed masses to drink something other than BMC. This actually has a bit of flavor to it, it is lightly sweet with a light balancing bitterness to it.

Light gold color. Large head. Aroma is malty and slightly floral. A light bodied golden ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are spicy. Well balanced. Very flavorful for a blonde ale. Very drinkable. Light and refreshing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Appearance: This beer is clear golden colored with a fluffy white head:
Aroma: I detected hints of citrus & honey in the nose.
Flavor: It has some initial tart hoppiness followed by a clean finish.
It's a very drinkable beer. It's nothing spectacular, but it's nice. By far Casta's beers are better than most any other Mexican beers

Finally a quality beer from Mexico. A brilliant golden yellow with a nice white head and good carbonation. Smooth meduim bodied beer that is crisp and clean. The taste has a sharp citrus with a spicy kick. Fruit flavors blend nicely with the sweetnes of malts. Overall a great well balanced beer from Mexico. It's nice to see something other than the more common bland lagers.

Appearance: clear, honey-gold color, fluffy white head.
Aroma: sweet, honeyish, a hint of flowers, and a bunch of fruit (peaches, orange)'
Nice, fruity hop notes upfront, with a sweet, rounded finish.
Light body, subtle malt, persisitent flavor.
Eminent drinkability, smooth'n'tasty.
A "golden ale" I'd happily down again.

Nice looking beer. Thin head. Lovely colored beer, though. Light amber color. Great aroma. Spicy and lemony, plus, of course, that unique Casta aroma. Tastes very good. Some apples and spices. Clean and malty. Rich flavors and enticing aftertaste. Very good golden ale.

Straw gold in color, with a medium head which leaves a decent lace. Aroma is grainy, with a slightly fruity malt base and an understated hop presence. Grains dominate in the mouth as well, rendering the flavor just slightly sweet with a bit of citric fruitiness from the hops. The body is medium-light, witjh adequate but unobtrusive carbonation. Finish is slightly bitter and just a wee bit astringent. Quite a decent beer.

On the pour a luminous gold color with a magnificent and brilliant white head that is frothy in texture and the lace clingy curtain to coat the glass. Malt nose, slightly floral, sweet, and quite a pleasant “Sniff” for the old snoot. Start is malt sweet, the top skinny, the finish is middling in carbonation, the hops pertinent, the aftertaste dry. Drinkable beer that borders on being a bit “thin”, which as I said before is understandable, do to the heat, big heavy beers just don’t set well in the heat of Mexico or Arizona for that matter, well in the Summertime at any rate.
