The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of roasted malt and chocolate with some coffee mixed in. All of the things I look for in an American Stout are present in the aroma.

The flavor is also very nice. I get a ton of chocolate and coffee, with a little bit of roasted character hidden in the background. The alcohol is completely hidden and there are no hop notes.

Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice stout.

22oz. Bomber

Been sitting on this one for alittle while.

Pours a very nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, with a nice one-finger creamy off-white head, with some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice coffee/toffee notes, slightly roasty. The taste is malty, sweet, nice coffee/toffee notes, with some chocolate hints. Medium Body, the finish is slightly dry/bitter. A pretty tasty brew.

22 oz bottle purchased from the brewpub bottle shop poured into a goblet. The cap is labeled as "twist off", but it most definitely is not.

Appearance: Not quite black but very dark and somewhat still. Just a little ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass that leaves a bit of lacing.

Smell: The coffee smells like brewed coffee rather than ground beans. The chocolate that is claimed on the label is only barely noticeable. The roasted malts make up the remainder of the smell.

Taste: This stout does not overwhelm the palette with a taste rush. The coffee and chocolate dominate the finish. The order of flavors is: roasty malts, coffee, chocolate (almost) sweetness, and finally some bittering. The flavors mesh really well

Mouthfeel: The body is on the thick side with nice carbonation that balances and lifts the flavors so they are not overbearing. The finish is not very long but flavorful.

Overall: I think this is the first coffee stout I have reviewed. I enjoy this one and would get it again. A tasty beer at a solid price point.

Picked this up at the SLC pub over the weekend.. shared with Inflatablechair and reinheitsgematt tonight. We all agreed this is a pretty righteous coffee brew.

Pours not quite black... instead a deeeep walnut brown with perfect dark garnet highlites near the stem of my glass... the head is tan with okay retention and only okay lacing.

The nose is fresh cold pressed coffee combining with some minor cocoa... very fresh.. wonderful.

Flavor is chocolate covered espresso beans.. so much coffee and good cocoa blends seamlessly with some minor roasty notes and background fruity elements.

lite/medium bodied with a great small bubble carbonation... sorta creamy.

Drinkability is fantastic for me.... I used to drink great coffee every day, now I am sure I drink more coffee beers than actual cups of joe. But I am still sorta a coffee nut. Very nice, get this now while you can... the coffee will only get more muted.

Pours one shade from black with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of smooth roasted malts with large amounts of robust coffee and lighter amounts of dark chocolate.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though not as smooth. Moderately dry roasted malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by smooth coffee. Midway through the sip the roasted notes fade a bit and make room for slightly sweeter dark chocolate. The dark chocolate and coffee carry through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is OK. The thickness is on the light side with heavy carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall I was very excited about this beer after a cursory whiff however the flavor profile and mouthfeel let me down a bit. Still, a nice beer for the coffee beer family that's worth a shot.

22oz bottle purchased directly at the Salt Lake City Brewpub. Part of their Small Batch Series.

A- Pours a medium black with a smallish tan head. Not much retention or lacing to speak of.
S- At first, fresh ground coffee beans. As the beer warms up a bit, more coffee.
T- Just as coffee-forward as the nose. Basic stout qualities (light roast) with a heavy dose of coffee. Not much sweetness or bitterness.
M - Light body, thin, watery almost. A bit more body would have been welcomed.
O- Not bad, but a bit one-dimensional. A hint of sweetness or some chocolate/molasses flavors really would have bumped this up a bit, as would a touch more body behind it. At any rate, a decent coffee stout.
