Pours a dark amber red color with a thick white head on top. Smell is of caramel malts a bit watered down. Taste is sweet red licorice and surprisingly very good.

not bad beer at all, just not as good as i have come to expect from these guys, who i know for making beer far more interesting and delicious than this very modest irish style red ale. this is a bit darker than a lot of them ever get, past copper into earthy brick red with brown tones to it and a creamy head from the tap. aroma has a little earthiness to it, almost a scotch ale quality really, lightly smoky even, but its all real subtle. there is a ton of malt flavor too, rich without being sweet, and carrying a light maple note, as well as a baked bread freshness, toasted, less sweet than a red normally is, and there for sure is an english or irish ale yeast type doing the fermenting work, its all over the finish. its neat how this has such a sturdy body to it, almost feels creamy which is nice with the earthy malt flavors, very natural and well crafted, just not as exciting as i am used to from these guys. a little filling for me too, one big glass was all i needed, it sits a bit heavy in the belly, which slowed down my beer consumption for the rest of the evening. good beer, but not a style i usually get off one, well done as this one is...

On cask at Bar Volo Le Trou Du Diable event. Spot on the style, a good drinkable cask. Fragrant malt and hops, with three-eights of an inch of cask head. Good malting. Above average mouthfeel for a cask. A little sourness in finish, some lace, a smooth mouthfeel.

Pours dark red, mahogany in parts, 1 1/2 fingers of sticky white head, good lace left on the glass. Smells of citrus, grapefruit, hops, biscuity malt. Taste is very malty, medium bitterness, citrus hop, malty finish...taste is nothing at all the way the nose would make you think it would. Mouthfeel is rather thin and a touch watery, very light carbonation, a little more body would go a long way here. Very drinkable, would be a great session brew, good stuff overall.
