Visited the brewery on a hot day in Forchheim in Jun 22. Outside it was around 30 degrees C or higher and inside it was less. Most of the locals were outside under umbrellas while I remained inside, alone, where it was a bit cooler. One beer on tap, served in the classic stoneware mug, with others available in bottles. The beer on tap appears to be served from the wooden keg, but couldn't verify as it was never replaced. Somewhat helpful staff, but they were constantly running around. Personally, I liked the feel of the place overall, just a little less than the brewery next door.

Having landed in Nürnberg on a rainy day, all of my activities there were cancelled so it was into the car then and off to Bamberg but... at least a stop along the way! It had stopped raining by the time that I arrived at Nederbrau but it was still grey. Stepping inside I was a little surprised to find it so crowded so early in the day, but hey, that's fine by me, I was looking for a morning beer myself! My wife and I found a cozy seat surrounded by locals, and ordered a couple of beers. There were two wooden barrels up on the bar,, and they had at least three others in bottles. The overhead lights were shaped like brew ketttles which was charming and cute, pretty much like the rest of the decor. It's unfortunate that I never made it back, although I had intended to, so that'll have to be for another trip.

I made a visit to Forchheim on 22SEP11. After some siteseeing, I opted to make Neder my first stop for a bier or two...

It was situated on the ground floor of a multistory building in the heart of the old town, just one building of many all connected on the square. It was a pastel-tan, with doors and windows trimmed in dark green, with a few tables out front for good-weather imbibing. I headed in through the door on the left, through a small foyer, then right into the Stube. The long axis ran from front to rear, with many well-worn wooden tables along the walls on all sides, as well as in the middle of the room near the service bar, which is to the immediate left upon entering. It's your typical old-style Deutsch Lokale, with dark wood paneling from the floor half-way up, where white-washed stucco takes over. Paintings and pics of local sites and scenes decorated the walls, and the ceiling was of lovely dark wood and big-ass beams. Lighting was provided with ceiling lamps with brew-kettle shaped shades. There was some low-level music in the background, nothing outstanding or outlandish. Service was solid, timely and friendly, and I was never made to feel like an outsider. I was a solo American here amongst the dozen or so elder regulars enjoying a brew. They offered about 6 biers, as far as I could tell: Faßbier, Kellerbier, Pils, Schwarze Anna, Weißbier and Klassic (?). Prices were quite cheap, my Faßbier coming to €1.80 for a 0.5l krug. Definitely worth a return visit. Prosit!!
