Purchased and sampled in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, the green 1/2 liter bottle bears a red and white label with big numbers across the middle. The date refers to the founding year of the brewery. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 1/22/06, I opened it on 4/7/06. Hmm...
Pours clear gold under a 1/2 finger white head with good retention and nice lacing. There's a strong malty nose with a touch of bad watermelon. The mouth is very prickly and light. This is another standard post-Soviet beer: strong on the slightly sickly sweet malt. Hardly any hops. It's drinkable for a malt maven. Otherwise, pass.
