Purchased and sampled in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, the brown ½ liter bottle features a gold and white label featuring a mounted archer in traditional Kazakh helmet galloping across the steppe. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 5/20/06, I opened it on 4/6/06.
Pours a slightly pale gold under a one finger white head that lingers a bit and leaves a few lace strings. The nose is strong of fresh bread and just a hint of corn. The mouth is fairly prickly and slightly thick, with a bit of stickiness. We start with a good solid barley malt opening, slightly sweet, perhaps a bit like cornbread. Hops are here, too, dry and vaguely bitter. This is a good example of the style worth having a few.
