Purchased and sampled in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, the tall green 1/2 liter bottle comes with a pull top and a green and gold label featuring a panther ("Irbis" is Kazakh for snow leopard) slinking across the top of the name. "The Beer of the Year 2000" sits above the panther. The word "beer" in nine different languages rings the label. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 8/26/06, I opened it on 4/3/06.

Pours a clear slightly greenish tinted gold under a one finger off-white head that fades quickly to film and collar. The nose is strong of corn or rice – quite unpleasant. The mouth is very prickly and quite light. Sweet adjunct malt flavor is followed by harsh metallic malt. A hard aftertaste of unpleasant biting bitter rounds out the experience. Pretty brutal.
