Formerly brewed for One Pint Pub by Stadin Panimo; now brewed by Malmgard with a different recipe. 6.9% ABV.
Served on-draught at One Pint Pub in Helsinki, Finland. Reviewed from notes. Cost was 8 euro/pint. Expetations were above average given the brewery (and that this IPA is served on-draught - uncommon in Finland).
HEAD: Quarter-finger wide. White colour. Decent foaminess, frothiness, consistency, and complexion. ~3-4 minute retention. Leaves light even lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.
BODY: Pale copper of average vibrance. No yeast or sediment can be seen within. Fair clarity.
Appears adequately carbonated. It's a decent looking IPA, but has no stand-out characteristics.
AROMA: Floral hop notes, pale malts, vague fruity hops, and some creaminess. It's a clean aroma of average intensity, with a hop profile that seems generic and unremarkable.
I detect no yeast, off-notes or booze.
TASTE: Clean barley, sweetening pale malts, English biscuit malt, and generic floral hop notes. Some vague fruity hops. The pale malt backbone outshines the hops (which should be the emphasis in an IPA). It's a timid shallow build for an IPA with an insufficient hop presence, but I do enjoy drinking it. Balance is lacking, but it's a pleasant brew for what it is.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, moderately thick, and unrefreshing. Not oily, gushed, got, boozy, etc. There's not a harmony of texture and taste, but the two don't clash.
OVERALL: Not a gestalt build for an IPA, but its drinkable. It cant hold a candle to the best beers in the style internationally, but by Finnish standards it isn't awful. Not worth trying (especially at this price point). Has nothing to offer the discerning drinker. More an English IPA than an American IPA.
