Served on tap at Bangor location into mixer glass.
When served the beer the appearance was encouraging. Definitely looked like a Marzen with not really enough head but a pro didn't pour it, so what can you do. The aroma was just awful. It was like a jumble of cooked corn (DMS) with some graininess and honey (possibly because it was old). Some sourness came through as well.
Taste was a little better but still not impressed. Just tasted like it had been sitting in the lines for weeks without being touched. The honey came through in the taste (otherwise known as cloying sweetness). Mouthfeel was definitely low for a Marzen style beer. I know they want to make it drinkable but this beer should have WAY more body. Definitely not drinkable at all.
After the first sip i knew i had made a mistake in ordering it. Just overall not a good beer. I want to say it was just old (and that certainly might've contributed to it) but there were definitely problems with the recipe and fermentation practices before it got served. Do not order this beer.

Off the tap at the Topsham brewery this beer was a hazy orange color. The head was khaki-colored, retained only decently but left good fishnets of lacing down my glass. The aroma was understated, dry and grainy. The flavors were similar, but odd for the style. At first it tasted of grain mash and some burned malt with hints of sourness in the form of grapefruit and citrus rind from the hops in the middle. The finish was bitter in an astringent way and lingering, an unfortunate combination. Otherwise the body, mouthfeel and carbonation were fine for the style but the high acidity and weird flavor profile just killed it for me.
