The seventh beer tasted by half-pint at the Chelmsford Summer Beerfest., 12/07/2006. Gravity-dispensed. The cask label states that "warning: contains shellfish", and that really triggered my interest in the beer, as I thought it might be a Mussel-twist of a "real" oyster-stout?

A: surprise, it pours a pale straw hue, so definitely not a stout then~~ great clarity, with a painted canvas-like beer head, on top of a gently carbonated body with lots of micro-scopic fizziness ascending from the bottom.
S: a flow of lemon-grass like, mildly sweet and aromatic lemony hops leads the nose, backed by semi-sweet and semi-rich honey-ish malts with an intensifying hayish note in the background. Enticing. But no traces of shellfish as far as my nose could manage...
T: semi-stinky and nutty at first, quickly ensued by a flintstone-like mineral, dryish bitter taste, coupled with a light stream of sweet pale malts and a savoury edge (shellfish?); rather tangy in texture, like grapefruit peels without the flavour, leaving a very tangy, even a bit clashing mouthfeel down the palate and b/w the teeth... Very unusual I have to say, that the extraordinary tangy texture might be a result of addition of "mussels"?
M&D: refreshing on the mouthfeel and more-ish... A good session Blond Ale to quaff, and the shellfish edge is weaved in the flavour subtly, contributing a semi-crisp, dryish, and tangy touch to the overall flavour.
