Hey, a Russian strong beer that is actually palatable. What a shocker! Standard brown half liter bottle with a snazzy metallic label. Ingredients conform to the purity law - unheard of for a Russian strong beer, as sugar is universally used to raise the alcohol content. There was no freshness information I could find.
Poured a reddish gold with an off-white head that disappeared real fast. No lace. The nose had a surprising sweet raspberry tone to it that did not at all fit the style. The mouth was light and bubbly, with a definite sweetness to it. The taste is interesting, almost complex. There's a bit of fruit, a bit of malt, a bit of alcohol burn, and a mild but definitely discernible hoppy finish. Much smoother than most Russian strong beers, this was quite a pleasant surprise. I may need to set up a business trip to Bashkortostan!
