Ruby brown color where light passes through the center of the glass. Good bar poured beige head. Decent lace in the form of streaks and rings.
Smell: Dark burnt malt aroma which resembles black coffee.
The flavor leans to the very dark, nearly burnt malt. The coffee is lighter here. Highly carbonated the neutral body doesn't quite balance the mouthfeel. The finish is bittersweet -- bitter from the dark malt and probably sweet from the unfermented malt sugars. Overall, it does work.
